How to seek God's help in skill growth?
In what ways can we seek God's guidance in developing our skills?

Exodus 31:5 — God’s Hand in Skill Development

“to cut gemstones for settings, to carve wood, and to engage in every artistic craft.” (Exodus 31:5)

God literally filled Bezalel with His Spirit (v. 3) and gave detailed, tangible abilities. Skill is not a random human trait; it originates in the Creator who designed and distributes gifts according to His perfect will.

Recognizing the Source of Every Ability

Psalm 139:13-14 — God knits together each person’s capacities in the womb.

James 1:17 — “Every good and perfect gift is from above.”

Ephesians 2:10 — We are “God’s workmanship,” crafted for specific works prepared in advance.

Since ability is God-given, guidance for growing it must also come from Him.

Practical Ways to Seek God’s Guidance

• Saturate the mind with Scripture

Proverbs 3:5-6: trust, acknowledge, and let Him “make your paths straight.”

Psalm 119:105: His word is a lamp for every step in skill development.

• Ask boldly for wisdom

James 1:5 promises God “gives generously to all without finding fault.”

Psalm 32:8: He personally instructs and watches over the learner.

• Cultivate sensitivity to the Holy Spirit

Isaiah 30:21: the Spirit nudges, “This is the way, walk in it.”

Galatians 5:25: keep in step with Him, even in practice sessions, planning, and execution.

• Invite godly counsel

Proverbs 15:22: plans succeed with many advisors.

Acts 18:24-26: Apollos, though eloquent, was further equipped by Priscilla and Aquila.

• Practice diligence and excellence

Colossians 3:23: work “with your whole being, for the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 9:24-27: disciplined effort honors the Giver of the gift.

Aligning Motives and Methods

1 Peter 4:10 — Use gifts as “good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

Romans 12:6-8 — Identify the specific grace, then exercise it humbly and proportionately.

Matthew 5:16 — Develop skill so others “see your good works and glorify your Father.”

Stirring Up the Gifts Within

2 Timothy 1:6 — “Fan into flame the gift of God.”

– Schedule routine times for practice.

– Set incremental goals prayerfully.

– Record progress and thank God for each milestone.

Serving Others with Spirit-Led Excellence

Exodus 35:35 shows Bezalel and Oholiab teaching others; skill multiplies when shared.

Acts 6:3 — Spirit-filled, competent believers were chosen to serve practical needs.

Philippians 2:4 — Look to the interests of others, letting service shape and refine ability.

Summing It Up

Skill flourishes when the believer:

1. Acknowledges God as the original Craftsman.

2. Seeks guidance through Scripture, prayer, Spirit-promptings, and godly mentors.

3. Works diligently, aiming for God-honoring excellence.

4. Employs every ability in loving service to others, thereby reflecting the glory of the One who “fills” His people, just as He did Bezalel, “to engage in every artistic craft.”
