How to seek wisdom like earth's kings?
How can we seek wisdom like "all the kings of the earth"?

The Verse in Focus

“All the kings of the earth sought an audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had put in his heart.” (2 Chronicles 9:23)

Recognizing the True Source of Wisdom

• God Himself is the giver of wisdom.

 • “For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:6)

 • “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5)

Preparing the Heart as Solomon Did

• Value wisdom above every other treasure.

• Ask with humility, acknowledging personal limitation.

• Desire wisdom for righteous judgment and service, not self-exaltation (1 Kings 3:9-12).

• Maintain reverent fear of the Lord: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His precepts gain rich understanding.” (Psalm 111:10)

Seeking Wisdom Through God’s Word

• Daily intake of Scripture—the unchanging standard of truth.

• Meditate on passages that specifically impart wisdom (Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, James, the Gospels).

• Compare every other source of counsel against the written Word (Isaiah 8:20).

Coming to the Greater-than-Solomon

• Jesus declared, “Now One greater than Solomon is here.” (Matthew 12:42)

• “In Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossians 2:3)

• Draw near to Christ in prayer, fellowship, and obedience; He is Wisdom personified (1 Corinthians 1:30).

Surrounding Ourselves with God-Fearing Counsel

• “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” (Proverbs 15:22)

• Seek mentors whose lives display Scriptural fruit.

• Weigh every counsel against biblical principles before acting.

Practicing Humility and Obedience

• Wisdom is validated by action (Matthew 11:19).

• Humbly receive correction; “Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.” (Proverbs 9:8)

• Obey promptly; delayed obedience stalls growth in wisdom.

Guarding Against Counterfeits

• Earthly wisdom is “unspiritual, demonic” when it fosters envy or selfish ambition (James 3:15).

• Test every philosophy by its fruit—does it produce “pure, peace-loving, considerate” conduct? (James 3:17).

Living Out and Sharing the Wisdom

• Wisdom grows as it is practiced in daily decisions—finances, relationships, leadership.

• “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, redeeming the time.” (Colossians 4:5)

• Model God-given wisdom so that others, like the kings of old, may be drawn to hear and glorify Him.
