How to show trust in Jesus in trials?
In what ways can we demonstrate trust in Jesus' words in challenging times?

Setting the Scene

John 6 records a hard moment: many disciples walk away after Jesus’ “Bread of Life” teaching. Peter stays. His reason is simple and profound—“Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life” (John 6:68). That answer still shows us how to cling to Jesus when life feels just as hard.

Peter’s Confession: A Model of Trust

• He acknowledges Jesus as the exclusive source of truth and life.

• He refuses to let circumstances, opinions, or majority trends pry him away.

• He bases loyalty on Jesus’ words, not on how easy they are to understand or accept in the moment.

Ways to Demonstrate Trust Today

1. Stay in the Word when pressure mounts

– Read, meditate, and memorize; let His promises shape your inner dialogue (Psalm 119:105).

2. Obey even when it costs

– Acting on Jesus’ teaching turns belief into rock-solid foundation (Matthew 7:24-25).

3. Pray with expectancy, not panic

– Bring needs to Him and rest in the peace He promises (Philippians 4:6-7).

4. Speak His words out loud

– Encourage yourself and others with Scripture; faith grows by hearing (Romans 10:17).

5. Refuse alternate “saviors”

– Like Peter, ask, “Where else would I go?” Reject shortcuts—money, acclaim, self-reliance (Jeremiah 17:5-8).

6. Stand with the faithful remnant

– Gather with believers who honor the whole counsel of God (Hebrews 10:23-25).

7. Cast cares, don’t carry them

– Hand each anxiety to Him, trusting His care (1 Peter 5:7).

8. Walk by faith, not by sight

– Choose confidence in what He said over what you see (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Scripture Connections that Strengthen Our Resolve

Proverbs 3:5-6—Trust wholeheartedly; He will make paths straight.

John 14:1—“Do not let your hearts be troubled… believe also in Me.”

Hebrews 13:8—Jesus is “the same yesterday and today and forever.”

James 1:22—Be doers of the word, not hearers only.

Putting It into Practice

• Start each day with a gospel passage, ending by affirming aloud, “Your words are life.”

• When a crisis hits, pause before reacting; quote a promise that addresses it.

• Track answered prayers to remind yourself that Jesus’ words prove true in real time.

• Share testimonies of His faithfulness; hearing them fuels collective trust.

Challenging times reveal where we place our confidence. Following Peter’s lead, we declare—again and again—that the One who holds “the words of eternal life” is still worthy of undivided trust today.
