How to stay strong in faith today?
In what ways can we stand firm in faith despite opposition today?

Looking Back to Look Forward

“ But they conspired against Zechariah, and by the command of the king they stoned him in the courtyard of the house of the LORD.” (2 Chronicles 24:21)

Zechariah spoke God’s truth, and hostility followed. His story reminds us that faithfulness can bring real pushback. Yet Scripture repeatedly shows how believers can remain unshaken.

Ground Rules for Standing Firm

• Accept that opposition is normal

—“Indeed, all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” (2 Timothy 3:12)

—“Do not be surprised at the fiery trial that has come upon you.” (1 Peter 4:12)

• Anchor yourself in God’s Word

—Zechariah confronted Judah because “the Spirit of God came upon him” (2 Chronicles 24:20).

—Regular reading and meditation fortify convictions (Psalm 1:2–3).

• Stay in close fellowship with God’s people

 —Unity fuels courage (Hebrews 10:24–25).

—Isolated believers are easier targets for compromise.

• Resolve to obey God over people

—Peter and the apostles: “We must obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:29)

—Zechariah’s loyalty was to the covenant, not to the king.

Practical Habits for Today

Daily Word intake

Constant prayer and thanksgiving (1 Thessalonians 5:17–18)

Putting on the full armor of God—truth, righteousness, readiness, faith, salvation, the Word, prayer (Ephesians 6:13–18)

Cultivating holy boldness by recalling who God is (Isaiah 41:10)

Choosing Christlike responses—blessing instead of retaliation (Romans 12:17–21)

Keeping an eternal perspective: “For our light and momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal glory…” (2 Corinthians 4:17)

Encouragement from Christ’s Example

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus… who endured the cross, despising its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)

If He endured, He will empower us to do the same.

Key Promises to Memorize

John 16:33—“In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world.”

1 Corinthians 15:58—“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord…”

Living It Out This Week

• Speak truth graciously, even when it is unpopular.

• Refuse to compromise moral convictions for social approval.

• Seek accountability partners who will pray with you.

• Look for opportunities to serve and bless those who oppose you, showing them Christ’s love.

Opposition did not silence Zechariah, and it need not silence us. Rooted in Scripture, clothed with the armor of God, and empowered by His Spirit, we can stand firm and shine brightly in any age.
