How to trust God in tough times?
In what ways can we trust God when facing seemingly insurmountable challenges?

Standing at the Impossible

“The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out defiantly.” — Exodus 14:8

Pharaoh’s chariots thunder behind, the Red Sea blocks the way ahead, and the people have no human strategy left. Exactly here, God invites trust that overrides sight.

Why God Allows the Cornering

• To display His supremacy: “I will gain glory for Myself through Pharaoh” (v. 4).

• To reveal the bankruptcy of human strength: Israel cannot out-fight chariots or out-swim a sea.

• To deepen dependence: impossible odds push hearts to lean on Him alone (2 Corinthians 1:9).

Five Practical Ways to Trust When the Odds Overwhelm

1. Remember who sent you forward

- Israel left “by the mighty hand of the LORD” (Exodus 13:3).

- If He began the journey, He will finish it (Philippians 1:6).

2. Acknowledge God’s hand even in the opposition

- “The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh.”

- What threatens us is still under His authority (Proverbs 21:1).

3. Fix eyes on His unchanging presence, not the changing landscape

- Pillar of cloud by day, fire by night (Exodus 13:21-22).

- “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

4. Obey the next clear step

- Moses: “Tell the Israelites to go forward” (Exodus 14:15).

- Trust is often shown by taking the small step we already know to do (James 2:17).

5. Anticipate deliverance in God’s way and time

- The sea opened only when Moses raised his staff (Exodus 14:21).

- “Those who hope in the LORD will not be put to shame” (Isaiah 49:23).

Parallel Anchors for the Heart

Proverbs 3:5-6 — leaning not on our own understanding.

Isaiah 41:10 — “Do not fear, for I am with you.”

Romans 8:31 — “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

2 Chronicles 20:12 — “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”

Crossing Your Own Red Sea

When hemmed in by debt, illness, broken relationships, or cultural pressures, we stand where Israel stood: nothing left but God. Trust means staking everything on His character, moving forward in obedience, and expecting a pathway where none yet exists.

Takeaway Truths

• God may allow the impossible so His power becomes unmistakable.

• The forces against you are never outside His control.

• His presence is the constant that eclipses every variable.

• Faith walks forward before the waters part.

• Every Red Sea crossed becomes a memorial that fuels future trust.
