What steps can we take to trust God's direction as Moses did? Setting the Scene “Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of the land of Egypt. Go up to the land I promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’” (Exodus 33:1) Moses hears a clear directive: move forward into the promise. His example shows practical steps for cultivating the same confidence today. Treasure God’s Promises • Anchor your expectations to what God has already spoken. – Genesis 15:18; 26:3; 28:13—all echoed in Exodus 33:1. • Review His track record. Rehearsing fulfilled promises fuels fresh trust. • Internalize specific promises that apply to your situation (Philippians 4:19; Romans 8:28). Stay in Ongoing Conversation • Moses routinely entered the tent of meeting (Exodus 33:7–11). Make daily, unhurried time to listen. • Practice “checking in” during the day, inviting guidance moment by moment (Psalm 25:4–5). • Value God’s voice over every competing noise—limit influences that drown Him out. Submit Before You Step • Notice the order: the LORD commands, then Moses prepares. Obedience precedes understanding (John 14:21). • Hold plans loosely; hold God’s word tightly. • Ask, “What has God already said?” before asking, “What do I feel like doing?” Obey Promptly, Not Partially • Moses packs up the entire nation—no half-measures (Numbers 9:17-23). • Delayed obedience erodes faith; immediate obedience strengthens it (James 1:22-25). • Trust grows muscular through action, not theory. Depend on God’s Presence, Not Merely His Gifts • Exodus 33:15—Moses insists, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here.” • Seek the Giver above the gift. Blessings without God satisfy no one for long. • Cultivate awareness of His nearness—worship, meditate on Scripture, recall past encounters. Walk by Faith, Not Sight • Hebrews 11:27 notes Moses “persevered because he saw Him who is invisible.” • Train spiritual eyesight through Scripture memory and reflection (2 Corinthians 5:7). • Expect challenges; faith does not bypass obstacles, it outlasts them. Rely on God’s Character • Exodus 34:6–7 reveals the LORD as compassionate, gracious, faithful. • Trust flows naturally when we know Whom we’re following (Psalm 9:10). • Study His attributes; let each attribute answer a fear: – Omnipotence addresses “Is this too hard?” – Faithfulness addresses “Will He really come through?” – Love addresses “Does He care about me personally?” Encourage One Another on the Journey • Moses led within community; Israel moved as a people (Hebrews 3:12-13). • Share testimonies of God’s direction—faith is contagious. • Invite accountability to keep obedience on track. Expect Progressive Guidance • God gave the next step, not the whole itinerary. He will unveil further instructions as you move (Psalm 119:105). • Don’t stall waiting for total clarity. Light for the next step is enough. By rehearsing promises, prioritizing God’s presence, and translating His word into obedient action, we follow the pattern Moses modeled—confidently trusting God’s direction, one faithful step at a time. |
