What steps can we take to trust God's plan despite our perceived limitations? The Setting: Moses’ Self-Doubt “ But in the presence of the LORD Moses said to Him, ‘Look, I am unskilled in speech; how then will Pharaoh listen to me?’ ” (Exodus 6:30) Moses has already seen the burning bush, heard God’s call, and watched signs and wonders—yet his eyes drift back to his own tongue. That tension between divine calling and human limitation frames our study. Seeing Our Limitations in Moses • We, like Moses, often measure assignments through the lens of personal ability. • God, however, measures by His sovereignty and promise. Step 1: Remember Who Is Speaking—God’s Identity • “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14) still speaks. • A right view of God shrinks our limitations to proper size. • Isaiah 46:9-10—He declares “the end from the beginning,” guaranteeing the outcome. Step 2: Acknowledge Our Weakness Honestly • God never rebukes truthful confession of weakness (Psalm 51:6). • 2 Corinthians 12:9—“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Step 3: Cling to God’s Promises • Exodus 6:6-8—God lays out seven “I will” statements before Moses ever steps into Pharaoh’s court. • Hebrews 10:23—“He who promised is faithful.” Practical tip: Write the promises that speak to your situation and read them aloud daily. Step 4: Obey the Next Small Step • Exodus 7:6—“Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded them.” • Don’t wait for perfect ability; move with what you have. • Proverbs 3:5-6—Trust, acknowledge, watch Him make the path straight. Step 5: Rely on God’s Power, Not Our Skill • Exodus 4:12—“Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” • Philippians 4:13—“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Action: Start tasks with a conscious hand-off—“Lord, this is Yours.” Step 6: Rehearse Past Faithfulness • Psalm 77:11-12—“I will remember the works of the LORD…” • Keep a journal of answered prayers and interventions; reread often. Step 7: Speak Truth to Ourselves • Romans 10:17—“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” • Replace “I can’t” with scriptural truth (Joshua 1:9; Isaiah 40:29-31). Step 8: Surround Yourself with Faith-Builders • God sends Aaron to Moses (Exodus 4:14-16). • Hebrews 12:1—“We are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses.” Choose companions who echo God’s voice, not your fears. Step 9: Worship While Waiting • Exodus 4:31—The Israelites “bowed down and worshiped” before any plague fell. • Worship shifts focus from deficiency to sufficiency. Bringing It Together Trust grows when we: 1. Fix our gaze on God’s character. 2. Admit weakness but refuse paralysis. 3. Grip promises tighter than problems. 4. Act in obedience, one small step at a time. 5. Depend on divine power, not personal polish. 6. Rehearse God’s record. 7. Feed our minds truth. 8. Stand with faith-filled allies. 9. Worship through the waiting. Do these consistently, and like Moses we will discover that our perceived limitations become platforms for God’s unmistakable glory. |
