How to trust Jesus' power over evil?
What practical steps can we take to rely on Jesus' power over evil?

The Confrontation at Gadara

“ When Jesus arrived on the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met Him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.” (Matthew 8:28)

• Human strength had failed; the path was blocked by evil.

• Jesus stepped in, and every unclean spirit knew His authority (Matthew 8:29-32).

• He freed the men and restored peace, showing that no force of darkness can stand when He speaks.

Recognizing Christ’s Unmatched Authority

• All demons submit to Him instantly: “Go … and they came out” (Matthew 8:32).

• His victory is final and public: “Having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” (Colossians 2:15)

• His indwelling Spirit is greater than any adversary: “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)

Practical Steps for Daily Reliance

1. Submit to His Lordship

• Confess Jesus as Lord each day (Romans 10:9).

• Yield habits, plans, and relationships to His direction.

2. Stay Filled with Scripture

• Read, memorize, and speak verses that proclaim His dominion (Psalm 119:11).

• Use Scripture aloud when tempted, as Jesus did (Matthew 4:1-11).

3. Put On the Full Armor of God

• Belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, gospel shoes, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:10-18).

• Pray through each piece before stepping into the day.

4. Resist and Rebuke in His Name

• “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

• Speak the name of Jesus over anxious thoughts, oppressive atmospheres, or direct attacks.

5. Remove Footholds

• Confess sin quickly (1 John 1:9).

• Eliminate media, objects, or habits that invite darkness (Ephesians 4:27).

6. Lean on Christ-Centered Community

• Share burdens, receive counsel, and worship together (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Invite trusted believers to pray over your home and family.

7. Walk in Active Obedience

• Serve, give, and witness; obedience keeps focus on mission rather than menace (John 14:21).

8. Cultivate Praise and Thanksgiving

• Praise shifts attention to His greatness and silences the enemy (Psalm 8:2).

• Keep a gratitude list open during the day.

Scripture to Stand On

Luke 10:19 – “See, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you.”

Romans 8:37 – “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

Revelation 12:11 – “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”

Psalm 34:4 – “I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.”

Living It Out Together

• Keep short accounts with God and others; unresolved anger breeds footholds.

• Schedule regular times of corporate worship where Christ’s victory is declared.

• Share testimonies of deliverance; every story reinforces faith in His power.

• Stand ready to help those still bound, pointing them to the same Savior who cleared the Gadarenes’ road and still clears the way today.
