What actions can we take to uphold our covenant with God today? Setting the Scene Jeremiah 11:5 promises, “Then I will fulfill the oath I swore to your fathers… a land flowing with milk and honey.” The prophet answers, “Amen, LORD.” Our lives should echo that same “Amen” by actively honoring God’s covenant today. Why Our Actions Matter • “The LORD… keeps His covenant… to those who love Him and keep His commands” (Deuteronomy 7:9). • “If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love” (John 15:10). Covenant faithfulness has always been more than words; it is lived obedience flowing from redeemed hearts. Practical Ways to Uphold the Covenant 1. Love and Live the Word – Daily reading and meditation (Psalm 119:4). – “Be doers of the word” (James 1:22). – The new covenant writes God’s law on our hearts (Hebrews 10:16). 2. Obey out of Relationship – “By this we know… if we keep His commandments” (1 John 2:3). – Let loyalty, not legalism, define obedience. 3. Offer Whole-Life Worship – “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1). – Gather with believers to keep hearts aligned to God’s worth. 4. Pursue Justice and Mercy – “Act justly, love mercy, walk humbly” (Micah 6:8). – Defend the vulnerable, give generously, practice forgiveness. 5. Guard Covenant Community – “Make every effort to preserve the unity of the Spirit” (Ephesians 4:3). – Commit to a local church for encouragement and accountability. 6. Teach the Next Generation – Talk of God’s works “when you sit… walk… lie down… rise” (Deuteronomy 6:7). – Model faith consistently at home. 7. Walk by the Spirit – “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). – Depend on His power to bear covenant fruit. 8. Practice Continual Repentance – Confess quickly; restore fellowship (1 John 1:9). – Repentance turns us back to loyalty, not shame. 9. Serve the World in Christ’s Name – Good works showcase the covenant God (Matthew 5:16). – Meet practical needs with the gospel in word and deed. Living the “Amen” When we treasure Scripture, obey in love, worship fully, pursue justice, cherish community, disciple the young, rely on the Spirit, repent often, and serve others, we embody Jeremiah’s “Amen, LORD” and uphold our covenant with the God who always keeps His promises. |
