How can we invite Jesus to stay with us in our daily lives? Setting the Scene Luke 24 paints the risen Lord walking with two disciples unaware of His identity. “As they approached the village where they were headed, He seemed to be going farther” (Luke 24:28). Their next move—“Stay with us” (v. 29)—turned a passing encounter into a life-changing revelation. The pattern still works today. Recognize His Nearness • Jesus is already on the road beside us, even when unnoticed (Matthew 28:20). • Awareness begins by believing the promise of His constant presence as literal truth. • Quiet moments—commutes, chores, pauses at work—become opportunities to acknowledge, “Lord, You’re here.” Invite Him Intentionally • The travelers spoke simple words: “Stay with us.” • Scripture echoes the open-door promise: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock…” (Revelation 3:20). • Speak aloud or in the heart: – “Jesus, remain with me through this meeting.” – “Walk with me into this classroom.” – “Stay in this home tonight.” Create Space in the Heart • Hospitality requires room. Sin, worry, and clutter crowd Him out. • Confess and turn from anything that grieves His Spirit (1 John 1:9). • Welcome His rule: “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word… We will come to him and make Our home with him” (John 14:23). Abide in His Word • On the road Jesus “opened the Scriptures” and their hearts burned (Luke 24:32). • Ways to keep the flame: – Read a passage morning and evening. – Memorize key verses (Psalm 119:11). – Let His words shape decisions: “Let the word of Christ richly dwell among you” (Colossians 3:16). Stay in Prayerful Conversation • “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) turns inner talk into dialogue with Christ. • Whisper gratitude, seek guidance, or silently lean on Him during tasks. • Short, frequent exchanges foster constant communion. Obey What He Reveals • Abiding is inseparable from obedience: “If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love” (John 15:10). • Prompt, practical action—apology, generosity, changed habit—keeps fellowship warm. Share the Table Daily • Jesus was known “in the breaking of the bread” (Luke 24:35). • Mealtimes become reminders of His provision—pause to thank Him. • Regular participation in the Lord’s Supper deepens awareness of His living presence. Carry His Presence to Others • The two disciples hurried back to Jerusalem to tell the news (Luke 24:33-35). • Testimony, service, and encouragement extend His stay beyond our walls. • “Walk by the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16) so people sense Christ through words and actions. Daily life turns into an Emmaus road when hearts echo those earnest words: “Stay with us.” |
