Impact of humility & faith on choices?
How can humility and fear of the Lord shape our daily decisions?

The Verse at a Glance

“The rewards of humility and the fear of the LORD are wealth and honor and life.” (Proverbs 22:4)

Humility: Seeing Ourselves Through God’s Eyes

• Recognizes our complete dependence on the Lord (John 15:5)

• Keeps us teachable—ready to receive wisdom instead of insisting on our own way (Proverbs 3:5-7)

• Opens the door to God’s grace: “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

• Positions us for future exaltation: “Humble yourselves… that He may exalt you in due time.” (1 Peter 5:6)

Fear of the LORD: Living with Awe-Filled Obedience

• A reverent awareness that God sees, knows, and judges every thought and action (Hebrews 4:13)

• Beginning of knowledge and wisdom (Proverbs 1:7)

• Motivates a clean break from evil (Proverbs 8:13; Proverbs 3:7)

• Guides and instructs: “Who is the man who fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the path chosen for him.” (Psalm 25:12)

How These Qualities Shape Daily Decisions

• Finances: With humility we acknowledge that what we have belongs to God; in fear of the LORD we resist dishonest gain, trusting Him to supply “wealth… and life.”

• Speech: Humility listens before speaking; fear of the LORD steers words away from gossip, flattery, and anger (Proverbs 16:6).

• Relationships: Humility serves instead of demanding; fear of the LORD remembers we answer to God for how we treat others (Micah 6:8).

• Plans and Goals: Humility surrenders personal agenda to God’s will; fear of the LORD leads us to seek His direction first (Proverbs 3:6).

• Response to Correction: Humility admits wrong; fear of the LORD receives rebuke as protection rather than threat (Proverbs 15:33).

The Promised Rewards

• Wealth – God has the right and power to grant material prosperity; He also bestows spiritual riches (Ephesians 1:18).

• Honor – Divine favor that elevates in His timing (1 Samuel 2:30b).

• Life – Both longevity and the full, satisfying life that flows from walking closely with Him (John 10:10).

1. Begin each morning by acknowledging God’s ownership of your day and resources.

2. Pause before major choices—ask, “Does this reflect humble dependence and holy reverence?”

3. Invite trustworthy believers to speak truth into blind spots you might miss.

4. Memorize Proverbs 22:4 and repeat it when tempted to pride or compromise.

5. Celebrate God’s daily provisions, recognizing every good gift as part of “wealth… and life” promised to the humble and God-fearing.
