Inspire wholehearted service to God?
How can we encourage others to serve God wholeheartedly like Amasiah did?

Amasiah: A Snapshot of Wholehearted Service

2 Chronicles 17:16: “and next to him, Amasiah the son of Zichri, who volunteered himself to the LORD, with 200,000 mighty men of valor.”

• Amasiah’s name means “Jehovah is strength.” His life illustrates how strength flows from voluntary, undivided devotion.

• He “volunteered himself”—no coercion, no half-heartedness, simply a willing heart backed by courageous action.

Why Wholehearted Service Matters

• God looks for it: “For the eyes of the LORD roam to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are wholly devoted to Him.” (2 Chron 16:9)

• It inspires others: courage is contagious; compromise is, too.

• It aligns with our created purpose: “We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works.” (Ephesians 2:10)

Helping Others Catch Amasiah’s Spirit

1. Point to God’s worthiness

‑ Share testimonies of His faithfulness (Psalm 145:4).

‑ Remind that serving God is a privilege, not a burden (1 Samuel 12:24).

2. Model eagerness yourself

‑ “Be examples to the flock.” (1 Peter 5:3)

‑ Genuine zeal is more persuasive than any speech.

3. Invite, don’t impose

‑ Like Amasiah, encourage voluntary enlistment (Psalm 110:3).

‑ Offer varied avenues of service so gifts can flourish (Romans 12:4-8).

4. Equip and train

‑ Provide clear expectations and practical instruction (2 Timothy 2:2).

‑ Pair newcomers with seasoned mentors, echoing the Barnabas-Paul model (Acts 11:25-26).

5. Celebrate faithfulness, not flashiness

‑ Publicly acknowledge quiet servants (Romans 13:7).

‑ Share stories of behind-the-scenes ministry that advanced the gospel (Philippians 2:25-30).

6. Pray specifically for wholehearted hearts

‑ Paul prayed believers would “be filled with the knowledge of His will… bearing fruit in every good work.” (Colossians 1:9-10)

‑ Intercede that God ignite desire and supply strength (Philippians 2:13).

Practical Touchpoints for Daily Encouragement

• Offer “on-ramps” to service: short-term projects, trial roles, mission trips.

• Use affirming words promptly: a text, note, or public thanks right after faithful service.

• Share Scripture cards highlighting verses on willing service (e.g., Joshua 24:15; Romans 12:11).

• Foster community: small groups where testimonies of service are regularly shared.

• Keep vision visible: bulletin boards, slides, or newsletters showing how each act of service advances the kingdom.

Scriptures That Stoke Zeal

Romans 12:11 – “Do not let your zeal subside; keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”

Galatians 6:9 – “Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

1 Corinthians 15:58 – “Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

Hebrews 10:24 – “Let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds.”

Putting It All Together

Keep Amasiah’s simple phrase front and center: “volunteered himself to the LORD.” Elevate God’s worth, embody eager service, invite others warmly, equip them well, and celebrate every step of obedience. In that atmosphere, wholehearted service becomes not the exception but the norm—just as God designed.
