Lessons from Jehosheba on leader protection?
What can we learn from Jehosheba about protecting God's chosen leaders today?

The Historical Snapshot

“ But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram and wife of Jehoiada the priest, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the king’s sons, who were being put to death. She hid him and his nurse in a bedroom to save him from Athaliah, and he was not killed.” (2 Kings 11:2)

Athaliah’s murderous purge threatened the Davidic line. Jehosheba’s quick, quiet rescue preserved the royal child through whom the covenant promises would continue.

Lessons From Jehosheba’s Brave Intervention

• Recognize God’s hand on a leader. Jehosheba knew the covenant rested on one of David’s descendants (2 Samuel 7:12-16).

• Act swiftly when life and calling are at stake. Delayed obedience could have cost Joash his life.

• Risk personal safety for God’s purposes. She defied an evil ruler; compare the Hebrew midwives in Exodus 1:17.

• Use the resources you have—her palace access and a small bedroom were enough.

• Partner with the godly. Jehosheba’s husband Jehoiada later staged the rightful coronation (2 Kings 11:12-17).

• Understand that protecting one servant often safeguards many. Joash’s survival preserved the messianic lineage (Matthew 1:6-16).

• Trust God with the outcome. Six years of hiding (2 Kings 11:3) show patient confidence.

Putting It Into Practice Today

• Identify those God has placed in leadership—pastors, missionaries, civil authorities who honor Him (Romans 13:1).

• Pray consistently for them (1 Timothy 2:1-2; Ephesians 6:18).

• Provide practical help—meals, financial support, security measures, wise counsel.

• Shield them from slander; speak truth in love when they are misrepresented (Proverbs 31:8-9).

• Stand with them when it is costly. Spiritual courage may require public loyalty (Acts 18:9-10).

• Use your unique access or skill set—legal knowledge, media platforms, hospitality—to close gaps an enemy might exploit.

• Resist fear. “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).

Supporting Scriptures That Reinforce the Call

Psalm 105:15—“Do not touch My anointed ones.”

Hebrews 13:17—Leaders will give an account; our obedience should make their task a joy.

Proverbs 24:11—Rescue those being led away to death.

Esther 4:14—One person’s brave act preserves a nation.

2 Timothy 4:17—The Lord stood with Paul and strengthened him; He often does so through His people.

Encouragement for Today

God still accomplishes His purposes through ordinary believers who step up at critical moments. A hidden bedroom was enough for Jehosheba; the resources in your hand are enough for God to use now. Stay alert, stay courageous, and be ready to shield those whom the Lord appoints, so His kingdom work goes forward unhindered.
