Lessons from Uzziah's obedience today?
What can we learn from Uzziah's obedience to apply in our lives today?

Setting the Scene

2 Chronicles 26:4: “He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Amaziah had done.”

Before pride overtook him later (26:16), young King Uzziah modeled a season of wholehearted obedience. His example speaks into every believer’s daily walk.

Snapshot of Obedient Leadership

• Steady faithfulness: Uzziah’s “right” actions weren’t one–off gestures but a lifestyle choice.

• Learned patterns: He followed the godly precedent of his father Amaziah—proof that habits of righteousness can be passed down.

• Accountability: Verse 5 adds, “He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God; and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him prosper.” Uzziah submitted to spiritual mentoring.

What Uzziah’s Obedience Teaches Us Today

1. Seek God First and Keep Seeking

• “As long as he sought the LORD, God made him prosper” (26:5).

• Jesus echoes the principle: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).

• Application: Begin every plan, decision, and relationship by asking, “Am I seeking God’s will or my own?”

2. Value Godly Mentors

• Zechariah “instructed him in the fear of God” (26:5).

Proverbs 15:22: “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”

• Application: Invite mature believers to speak into your life, and stay teachable even when success arrives.

3. Practice Ongoing Obedience, Not Occasional Compliance

1 Samuel 15:22: “To obey is better than sacrifice.”

• Daily obedience compounds into lifelong impact. A single act impresses people; sustained obedience pleases God.

• Application: Build habits—consistent Bible intake, regular worship, prompt repentance—so obedience becomes reflex.

4. Guard Against Success-Induced Pride

• Uzziah’s early obedience brought victory (26:6–15). Later, “when he became powerful, his pride led to his downfall” (26:16).

Deuteronomy 8:11–14 warns Israel not to forget God when prosperity comes.

• Application: After every achievement, redirect credit to God, remembering James 1:17: “Every good and perfect gift is from above.”

5. Leave a Legacy of Righteousness

• Just as Uzziah followed Amaziah’s good example, our obedience influences children, friends, and congregations.

Psalm 78:6–7: “…so that the next generation would know them… then they would put their trust in God.”

• Application: Live visibly for Christ so others catch the pattern.

Putting It into Practice

• Start each morning with Scripture and prayer, seeking God’s direction.

• Identify one trusted believer to hold you accountable this week.

• Review recent successes; thank God aloud and renounce any hidden pride.

• Teach someone younger—family member, new believer—what you’re learning, passing the obedience forward.

Closing Reflection

Uzziah’s story reminds us that obedience invites God’s favor, while pride jeopardizes it. By continually seeking the Lord, embracing counsel, and walking humbly, we can enjoy the same early blessings Uzziah experienced—without repeating his later mistakes.

How did Uzziah's actions align with 'what was right in the eyes of the LORD'?
