Drawing the Two Verses Together

Colossians 1:19

“For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him.”

John 1:14

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

These two declarations—one from Paul, one from John—unite around a single, breathtaking reality: every ounce of who God is resides permanently in Jesus Christ, and that divine fullness stepped into human history in flesh and blood.

John’s Eyewitness of Embodied Fullness

• The Word (Logos) existed eternally but “became flesh,” a literal incarnation, not a symbolic one.

• “Made His dwelling” echoes the tabernacle, where God’s presence was once veiled; now His presence is personal and visible.

• John testifies to “glory” that is “full of grace and truth,” confirming that nothing of God’s character was diminished or diluted in the incarnation (cf. John 1:18).

Paul’s Proclamation of In-Dwelling Fullness

Colossians 1:19 asserts that “all His fullness” (Greek plērōma—the complete sum of deity) abides in Christ.

• The Father was “pleased,” underscoring harmony in the Godhead: Christ’s fullness is neither accidental nor reluctant.

• This theme continues in Colossians 2:9—“For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity dwells in bodily form.” The incarnation is both complete deity and complete humanity.

One Harmonious Truth: Scripture Echoes

Hebrews 1:3 – “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature.”

John 14:9 – “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.”

2 Corinthians 4:6 – God’s glory shines “in the face of Jesus Christ.”

Together, these passages reinforce that the fullness of God is perfectly, visibly, and exclusively revealed in Christ.

Why Christ’s Fullness Matters

• Perfect Revelation: We no longer guess what God is like; we look at Jesus.

• Complete Redemption: Only a fully divine, fully human Savior can reconcile humanity to God (Colossians 1:20-22).

• Sufficient Resource: “You have been made complete in Christ” (Colossians 2:10). Nothing outside of Him is needed for spiritual life or growth.

• Daily Confidence: Because the fullness dwells in Him, believers can draw near with assurance that every grace, truth, and power of God is available in relationship with Jesus.

Living in the Light of His Fullness

• Worship wholeheartedly—acknowledging that all divine glory resides in the risen Christ.

• Trust entirely—resting in the sufficiency of the One who embodies grace and truth.

• Reflect faithfully—allowing His indwelling Spirit to shape our words and actions so that others glimpse God’s fullness in us.

Christ is not merely a messenger about God; He is God’s complete presence among us—eternally, bodily, gloriously full.

How can we reflect Christ's fullness in our daily lives?
