The Father Who Names and Creates

Ephesians 3:15: “from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.”

Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Creator and Father—A Single Identity

• The God who “created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1) is the same One Paul calls “Father” (Ephesians 3:15).

• Creation establishes His paternity; fatherhood explains His ongoing care.

• Because He made everything, every creature—and every family—finds both origin and identity in Him.

Authority Shown in Creative Acts

• Spoke and it happened: Psalm 33:9, “For He spoke, and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm.”

• Formed with purpose: Isaiah 45:18, “He did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited.”

• Sustains what He made: Hebrews 1:2–3, “through whom He made the universe… sustaining all things by His powerful word.”

Naming: The Mark of Ownership and Care

• God names Day and Night (Genesis 1:5), Sky (1:8), Earth and Seas (1:10)—exercising rightful authority.

Ephesians 3:15 echoes this pattern: every family derives its very name from Him.

• Naming is relational: like a father conferring identity on a child, God confers meaning and purpose on creation.

Scripture’s Unified Witness

John 1:3—“Through Him all things were made.”

Colossians 1:16—“All things were created through Him and for Him.”

Revelation 4:11—Creation exists by His will and for His glory.

Romans 11:36—“From Him and through Him and to Him are all things.”

Living Under His Creative Authority

• Dependence—All breath and provision come from the One who spoke worlds into existence.

• Identity—Because our names derive from Him, our worth is rooted in His intentional design.

• Purpose—Created “for Him,” we reflect His character and align our lives with His revealed will.

• Confidence—The Father who formed galaxies holds our present and future; His creative word never fails.
