Link Isaiah 56:5 to NT spiritual inheritance.
Connect Isaiah 56:5 with New Testament teachings on spiritual inheritance.

A Promise of an Everlasting Name

“ ‘to them I will give within My house and within My walls a memorial and a name better than that of sons and daughters. I will give them an everlasting name that will not be cut off.’ ” (Isaiah 56:5)

Who Receives the Promise in Isaiah 56?

• Eunuchs—people without hope of physical descendants

• Foreigners—those once excluded from Israel’s covenant life

• Anyone who “grasps My covenant” (Isaiah 56:4,6)

The Lord pledges full membership in His house and an undying name—language of inheritance, security, and family.

The New Testament Echoes

1. Adoption and Heirship

Romans 8:16-17: “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ…”

Galatians 3:26-29: “In Christ Jesus you are all sons of God through faith… If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.”

2. Citizenship in God’s Household

Ephesians 2:19: “So then, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household.”

1 Peter 2:10: “Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God.”

3. A New, Permanent Name

Revelation 3:12: “I will write on him the name of My God…and My new name.”

Revelation 2:17: “…a white stone, and on the stone a new name written that no one knows except the one who receives it.”

4. An Inheritance That Cannot Be Lost

1 Peter 1:3-4: “…an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you.”

Hebrews 9:15: “He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance.”

Key Parallels and Themes

• Place: “Within My house and within My walls” ↔ “temple of the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:19)

• People: Eunuchs/foreigners ↔ Gentiles/outsiders now called “sons” and “heirs”

• Permanence: “Everlasting name” ↔ “imperishable inheritance,” “name written,” “cannot be cut off”

• Basis: Old Testament covenant faithfulness ↔ New Covenant accomplished by Christ’s blood (Hebrews 9:12)

Living Out the Inheritance Today

• Embrace identity: You possess an unbreakable family name and place in God’s household.

• Reject exclusion: No believer is a second-class citizen; the cross erased “strangers and foreigners.”

• Walk as heirs: Heirs guard the family honor—live in holiness that fits your everlasting name (Ephesians 5:8-10).

• Anticipate fullness: Present adoption points forward to the public unveiling of sons and daughters when Christ returns (Romans 8:19).

How can Isaiah 56:5 encourage inclusivity within the church community?
