Link Revelation 21:25 to Genesis 1 light.
How does Revelation 21:25 connect to Genesis 1's creation of light?

Opening the Passage: Revelation 21:25

“Its gates will never be shut at the end of the day, because there will be no night there.”

Bright Beginnings: Light in Genesis 1

Genesis 1:3 – “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”

Genesis 1:4 – “God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.”

• Notice the order: light appears on Day 1, while sun, moon, and stars arrive on Day 4 (Genesis 1:14-19). Light therefore exists independently of created luminaries; it originates directly from God Himself.

One Continuous Light Story

Genesis 1 provides the first act: God speaks light into a dark, formless world.

Revelation 21 presents the final act: God’s light fills the New Jerusalem so completely that night is permanently banished.

• The same divine pattern—God dispelling darkness—bookends Scripture.

No More Night: Fulfillment in the New Jerusalem

Revelation 21:23 – “The city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.”

Revelation 22:5 – “There will be no more night, and they will have no need for the light of a lamp or of the sun, for the Lord God will shine on them.”

• In Genesis 1, light ends darkness each day; in eternity, light ends darkness forever. The temporary cycle of day and night is replaced by an unending day.

Why the Gates Stay Open

• Ancient cities closed gates at night to guard against danger.

• In the New Jerusalem, perpetual daylight means absolute safety and rest; no threat can exist where God’s glory permanently shines.

Isaiah 60:11 foreshadows this: “Your gates will always stand open; they will never be shut, day or night, so that men may bring you the wealth of the nations.”

Christ, the True Light

John 1:4-5 – “In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

John 8:12 – “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

• The Creator who spoke light in Genesis is the Lamb who lights the city in Revelation.

Living in the Light Today

1 John 1:7 calls believers to “walk in the light as He is in the light.”

• Because the future holds endless daylight, present-day lives can reflect that brightness—free from hidden darkness and fear.
