Living daily as God's children?
How can we live daily as "sons and daughters" of God?

Setting the Foundation

“And: ‘I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters,’ says the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:18)

Understanding Our Identity

• God Himself declares our status; it is not earned, but received (John 1:12).

• Sons and daughters share the Father’s nature and privileges (Romans 8:15–17).

• Knowing who we are shapes how we think, speak, and act (1 John 3:1–2).

Practical Steps for Living as Sons and Daughters

1. Walk in close fellowship with the Father

‑ Set aside daily time in His Word; let Scripture renew your mind (Psalm 119:105; Colossians 3:16).

‑ Speak with Him continually—thanksgiving, confession, and dependence (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

2. Follow the Spirit’s lead

‑ “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” (Romans 8:14)

‑ Prompt obedience trains spiritual sensitivity; delayed obedience dulls it.

3. Reflect the family likeness

‑ “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, and walk in love.” (Ephesians 5:1–2)

‑ Choose attitudes that mirror Christ: humility (Philippians 2:5), forgiveness (Colossians 3:13), purity (1 Peter 1:14–16).

4. Cultivate family unity

‑ Honor fellow believers as brothers and sisters (1 Peter 2:17).

‑ Serve with your gifts for the common good (1 Corinthians 12:4–7).

‑ Practice hospitality and encouragement (Hebrews 10:24–25).

Guarding Our Hearts and Relationships

• The immediate context of 2 Corinthians 6:14–17 calls for separation from idolatry and unequal partnerships.

• Sons and daughters guard their affections:

– Reject anything that competes with loyalty to Christ.

– Choose friendships that strengthen faith (Proverbs 13:20).

– Maintain purity in body and spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18–20).

Growing in Family Resemblance

• Ongoing transformation is expected: “Everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.” (1 John 3:3)

• Practical rhythms:

– Regular self-examination (Psalm 139:23–24).

– Confession and cleansing (1 John 1:9).

– Delighting in what delights the Father—justice, mercy, humility (Micah 6:8).

Anticipating the Father’s Future

• Present obedience prepares us for future glory (Romans 8:18–21).

• Assurance: The Father never abandons His children (Hebrews 13:5).

• Expectation: One day we will fully resemble Him when we see Him as He is (1 John 3:2).
