Living to honor God today?
In light of Genesis 6:7, how should we live to honor God today?

Setting the Scene

“ So the LORD said, ‘I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the earth—man and animals and creatures that crawl and birds of the air—for I am grieved that I have made them.’ ” (Genesis 6:7)

God’s Grief and Justice

• Humanity’s rampant wickedness caused deep sorrow in God’s heart.

• The verse reveals both His holiness (He cannot overlook sin) and His personal investment in His creation (He is “grieved”).

• Judgment—though severe—flows from perfect justice, reminding us that sin always has consequences.

Lessons for Today

1. Sin still grieves God. While the specific judgment of the Flood was unique, the principle endures: unrepentant sin disrupts fellowship with Him.

2. God’s justice is paired with patience. Before the Flood, He warned through Noah (2 Peter 2:5). Today He continues to warn through His Word.

3. Our lives either invite God’s favor or His discipline. Neutrality toward righteousness is impossible.

Living to Honor God

• Pursue a blameless walk—like Noah, who “walked with God” (Genesis 6:9).

• Cultivate a sensitive conscience that quickly repents when convicted by the Spirit.

• Stand apart from cultural corruption rather than absorbing it.

• Maintain reverent awe: remembering that the same God who once judged the whole earth is still sovereign today.

• Live missionally: Noah’s obedience preserved life; our obedience points others to Christ’s saving grace.

Practical Steps

1. Daily Scripture intake—aligning thoughts with God’s standards, not society’s trends.

2. Regular self-examination—ask: “Does this attitude or habit grieve the Lord?”

3. Intentional community—surround yourself with believers who encourage holiness.

4. Serve sacrificially—channel energy toward acts that please God rather than selfish pursuits.

5. Share the gospel—warn of judgment, offer the ark of salvation found in Jesus.

Encouragement

The God who judged in Noah’s day also provided an ark. Today, He offers salvation through Christ. Embracing that gift and reflecting His character in everyday choices is the surest way to honor Him.
