Other Proverbs on hard work?
Which other Proverbs emphasize the value of hard work and diligence?

Setting the Scene: One Core Principle

Proverbs 14:23

“There is profit in all labor, but mere talk leads only to poverty.”

Work that is actually done produces benefit; words that never translate into action drain life and resources. Solomon circles back to this truth again and again. Below are the places where he hammers it home.

Hard Work Brings Provision

Proverbs 10:4 – “Idle hands make one poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.”

Proverbs 10:5 – “He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgrace.”

Proverbs 12:11 – “He who works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment.”

Proverbs 28:19 – “He who works his land will have abundant food, but whoever chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.”

Pattern: Labor → abundance. Daydreaming, procrastination, or reckless schemes → scarcity.

Laziness Leads to Poverty and Shame

Proverbs 6:9-11 – “How long will you lie there, O slacker? … A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and need like a bandit.”

Proverbs 13:4 – “The slacker craves yet has nothing, but the soul of the diligent is fully satisfied.”

Proverbs 20:4 – “The slacker does not plow in season; at harvest time he looks, but nothing is there.”

Proverbs 24:33-34 – “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber and need like a bandit.”

Pattern: Lethargy invites loss; the thief of poverty walks right in.

Diligence Brings Honor and Advancement

Proverbs 12:24 – “The hand of the diligent will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.”

Proverbs 21:5 – “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.”

Proverbs 22:29 – “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.”

Proverbs 27:18 – “He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who looks after his master will be honored.”

Pattern: Steady, skillful work opens doors and earns respect; shortcuts end in disappointment.

A Living Illustration: The Ant

Proverbs 6:6-8

“Go to the ant, O slacker; observe its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.”

The ant works without external prodding, stores ahead, and lives prepared. God points to this tiny creature as a tutor for every human heart tempted to coast.

Bringing It Together

From chapter 6 to chapter 28 the Holy Spirit repeats one message:

• Work faithfully → provision, security, influence.

• Delay, excuse, or empty talk → lack, regret, and forced dependence.

Solomon’s collected wisdom leaves no ambiguity: diligence is not optional for the believer who wants to honor God and flourish in life.
