Prioritize God's will in decisions?
How can we prioritize God's will in our daily decision-making?

Living as Jesus’ Family

“For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.” (Matthew 12:50)

Jesus links family intimacy to obedience. When He speaks, He is not using a metaphor only; He means it literally. Doing the Father’s will is the door into that family circle. Every decision, then, becomes an opportunity either to step inside with Him or to stand outside.

Seeing What God’s Will Looks Like

Scripture defines God’s will in clear, practical terms:

• Conformity to Christ’s character (Romans 8:29)

• Gratitude, joy, and continual prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

• Moral purity (1 Thessalonians 4:3)

• Spirit-led living that bears unmistakable fruit—love, joy, peace, etc. (Galatians 5:22-25)

When a choice strengthens these traits, we can be confident we are inside God’s revealed will.

Five Daily Habits That Keep Decisions on Track

1. Saturate Your Mind with Scripture

• “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

• Read, memorize, and meditate so the Spirit can recall truth when options appear.

2. Pray Before, During, and After Choices

• “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

• Short, honest prayers invite God’s input at the very moment of decision.

3. Trust Rather Than Lean

• “Trust in the LORD with all your heart… in all your ways acknowledge Him.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

• Deliberately set aside “what feels right” when it clashes with a clear command.

4. Check the Fruit

• Ask, “Will this decision produce love, joy, peace, patience…?” (Galatians 5)

• The Spirit’s fruit acts as an internal compass.

5. Obey Promptly

• Delayed obedience is disobedience. Immediate action—no matter how small—cements the choice and trains the will.

Inviting God into Specific Decisions

• Career moves: Filter opportunities through Colossians 3:17—can you do this work “in the name of the Lord Jesus”?

• Finances: Align budgets with Matthew 6:33—seek His kingdom first, then trust provision.

• Relationships: Measure words and actions against Ephesians 4:29—build up, give grace.

• Time management: Evaluate schedules by Ephesians 5:15-16—making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil.

Clearing Common Roadblocks

• Confusion—Ask for wisdom; God “gives generously” (James 1:5).

• Fear—Recall Joshua 1:9; courage grows when God’s presence is remembered.

• Peer pressure—Surround yourself with counselors who love the truth (Proverbs 11:14).

• Doubt—Review past faithfulness; testimony fuels present trust.

The Ongoing Reward

Every choice that aligns with the Father’s will deepens kinship with Jesus. Over time the pattern becomes natural: Scripture renews the mind, prayer steadies the heart, obedience shapes the life, and fellowship with Christ becomes the sweetest reality of all.
