Promote mature faith perspectives?
How can we encourage others to adopt a mature perspective in their faith?

The Anchor Text: Philippians 3:15

“All of us who are mature should embrace this point of view. And if you think differently about some issue, God will reveal this to you as well.”

Seeing the Heartbeat of the Verse

• Paul assumes maturity is attainable, not rare.

• He calls the mature to share “this point of view”―the mindset he has just described: pressing on, forgetting what is behind, straining toward what is ahead (vv. 12-14).

• He trusts God to correct any believer who is not yet convinced. Our task is to guide; God finishes the work in the heart.

What Spiritual Maturity Looks Like

• Christ-centered goals (Philippians 3:10-11)

• Resilient joy in hardship (James 1:2-4)

• Discernment that distinguishes good from evil (Hebrews 5:14)

• Relational unity without compromising truth (Ephesians 4:13-15)

• A teachable spirit that invites God’s ongoing correction (Philippians 3:15b)

Practical Ways to Encourage Others Toward Maturity

1. Model the mindset you want to multiply.

– “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1)

2. Speak the language of progress, not perfection.

– Remind friends that Paul himself had “not yet attained” (Philippians 3:12).

3. Share Scripture that fuels growth.

– Suggest reading plans through Romans 12, Colossians 3, or the Sermon on the Mount.

4. Celebrate small steps.

– When someone chooses forgiveness, highlight it as evidence of maturing faith.

5. Pray Scripture over them.

Colossians 1:9-10 frames intercession around knowledge, wisdom, and pleasing the Lord.

6. Invite them into serving roles.

– Growth accelerates when believers exercise their gifts (1 Peter 4:10-11).

7. Correct gently, trust God completely.

– “The Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone… hoping that God may grant them repentance.” (2 Timothy 2:24-25)

Words to Share Along the Journey

Romans 12:2 – Renewal of the mind brings discernment.

1 Corinthians 13:11 – Leaving childish ways.

Colossians 1:28 – Presenting everyone perfect in Christ.

Proverbs 27:17 – “Iron sharpens iron,” highlighting mutual encouragement.

Living the Example

• Keep your own eyes on the upward call (Philippians 3:14).

• Maintain accountability relationships.

• Let gratitude, not guilt, drive your pursuit of holiness.

Closing Reflection

Spiritual maturity is contagious when believers see it lived out with authenticity and joy. Carry Paul’s invitation—“embrace this point of view”—into every conversation, trusting God to reveal and refine what still needs growth.

In what ways can we align our mindset with mature believers in Christ?
