How can we actively promote "peace to the brothers" in our church community? Peace is God’s Gift and Our Stewardship Ephesians 6:23 begins with “Peace to the brothers…” Peace is first a divine blessing given “from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” Our role is to steward and spread what the Lord has already supplied. Cultivating a Heart of Peace • Receive Christ’s peace personally (John 14:27). We cannot give what we lack. • Let “the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” (Colossians 3:15). Make His rule practical by yielding emotions, plans, and disagreements to Him. • Abide in Scripture and prayer; they renew the mind and calm the spirit (Psalm 119:165; Isaiah 26:3). Practices that Foster Peace in the Congregation 1. Warm, Gospel-Centered Greetings – A sincere handshake, eye contact, and words of grace reflect Romans 15:7. – Ask about spiritual needs, then listen well. 2. Quick Reconciliation – Follow Matthew 5:23-24: address offenses before worship grows cold. – Apply Matthew 18:15-17 privately first; only enlarge the circle if needed. 3. Edifying Speech – Ephesians 4:29: speak “only what is helpful for building up.” – Replace sarcasm or gossip with affirmation and truth in love (Proverbs 16:24). 4. Shared Prayer – Corporate prayer unites hearts (Acts 1:14). – Pray specifically for one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). 5. Mutual Service – Serve side by side; unity blooms in shared mission (Philippians 1:27). – Rotate teams so believers form new bonds across ages and backgrounds. 6. Hospitality and Table Fellowship – Open homes (1 Peter 4:9). A meal softens walls and deepens trust. – Mix generations and cultures to display the one-body reality (1 Corinthians 12:13). 7. Teaching Peacemaking Principles – Offer classes or small-group studies on biblical conflict resolution. – Highlight examples such as Abraham and Lot (Genesis 13) or Barnabas as a bridge (Acts 9:27). 8. Model Leadership – Elders and ministry leaders set the tone (1 Peter 5:3). – Transparent communication and humble repentance from leaders normalize peace-making. Guardrails Against Discord • Reject partiality (James 2:1-4). • Address false teaching promptly (Titus 1:9). • Maintain orderly worship so peace is undisturbed (1 Corinthians 14:33,40). Encouragement to Persevere Romans 14:19 urges, “So then, let us pursue what leads to peace and to mutual edification.” Promoting peace is not a one-time project but a continual pursuit empowered by the indwelling Spirit. As each member commits to these practices, the greeting of Ephesians 6:23 becomes the lived experience of the entire church family. |
