Qualities for modern disciples to emulate?
What qualities should modern disciples emulate from those sent in Luke 10:1?

Setting the Scene

Jesus had already sent the Twelve (Luke 9:1–6). Now, as His earthly ministry moves toward Jerusalem, He broadens the mission force.

Key Verse (Luke 10:1)

“After this, the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of Him to every town and place He was about to visit.”

Observed Qualities in the Sent Seventy-Two

• Appointed—personally chosen and authorized by the Lord

• Available—ordinary “others” who responded when called

• Sent—mission-minded, outward-focused lives

• Team-oriented—went “two by two” in partnership

• Forerunners—prepared the way “ahead of Him”

• Comprehensive—targeted “every town and place,” showing no partiality

Qualities to Emulate Today

• Divine Appointment

– Recognize that Christ still calls and commissions (John 15:16; Acts 13:2).

• Readiness and Availability

– Keep hearts, calendars, and resources open for immediate obedience (Ephesians 2:10).

• Missional Mind-Set

– Live as ambassadors, seeking the lost rather than waiting for them to come (2 Corinthians 5:20).

• Partnership and Accountability

– Serve in teams, valuing mutual encouragement and protection (Ecclesiastes 4:9; Mark 6:7).

• Preparatory Witness

– Introduce people to Jesus so He can enter their lives; till the soil for the gospel (John 1:35-37).

• Inclusive Reach

– Refuse to overlook any “town and place”—embrace neighborhoods, workplaces, and distant nations alike (Matthew 28:19; Acts 1:8).

Living These Qualities in Daily Life

• Begin each day acknowledging Christ’s authority over your schedule.

• Keep a short “yes list” of tasks He may ask—visiting a neighbor, supporting a missionary, sharing a meal.

• Pair up for evangelism, Bible study, or service projects; debrief and pray together afterward.

• Speak of Jesus naturally in everyday conversations, paving the way for deeper gospel dialogue.

• Map spheres of influence—family, community, online spaces—and pursue intentional gospel presence in each.

• Celebrate every testimony, whether local or global, that shows Christ entering a new “place.”
