Scriptures on God's power, our humility?
What other scriptures emphasize God's power and our need for humility?

Job’s Cry of Reverence

Job 13:21 — “Withdraw Your hand far from me, and stop frightening me with Your terrors.”

Job knows God’s hand is so mighty that it can crush or protect. His first instinct is humble caution: “Lord, Your power overwhelms me—please not so close, not so heavy.” That twin theme—God’s unstoppable power and our proper lowliness—threads through Scripture.

Portraits of God’s Unmatched Power

Job 38:4 — “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.”

Psalm 29:4 — “The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic.”

Isaiah 40:26 — “Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who created these? … Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”

Jeremiah 32:17 — “Ah, Lord GOD! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!”

Mark 4:39 — “Then Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the sea. ‘Peace! Be still!’ Then the wind died down, and it was perfectly calm.”

Each passage showcases authority that dwarfs human ability: creating galaxies, stilling storms, sustaining every star.

Scriptures Calling Us to Humble Ourselves

Proverbs 3:34 — “He mocks the mockers, but gives grace to the humble.”

Isaiah 66:2 — “… This is the one I will esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, who trembles at My word.”

Micah 6:8 — “… what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”

Daniel 4:37 — “… the King of heaven … is able to humble those who walk in pride.”

James 4:6 — “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

1 Peter 5:6 — “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, so that in due time He may exalt you.”

God’s pattern is consistent: His high hand invites our low posture.

Power and Humility Perfectly Joined in Christ

Philippians 2:9–11 — “Therefore God exalted Him … that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow … and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Christ wields all authority, yet He first “made Himself nothing” (Philippians 2:7). He models the path Job sensed: bow low before infinite strength, then watch God lift up.

Living the Balance Today

• Stand in awe: Read passages like Job 38 aloud; let God’s questions humble you.

• Tremble at His word: Treat every command as non-negotiable, every promise as certain.

• Choose low places: Serve quietly, repent quickly, credit God openly.

• Rest in His might: The same hand that overwhelms also upholds (Isaiah 41:10).

Power belongs to the LORD; humility is the safe and fitting response for His people.
