Scriptures on trusting God in fear?
What other scriptures encourage trust in God during fearful times?

Habakkuk 3:16 sets the scene

“I heard and trembled within; my lips quivered at the sound. Decay entered my bones, and I trembled where I stood. Now I must quietly wait for the day of distress to come upon the people invading us.”

Habakkuk is honest about shaking knees, yet he chooses quiet trust while he waits. Scripture echoes that same invitation all the way through the Bible.

Songs of trust in the Psalms

Psalm 56:3-4 — “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You… In God I trust; I will not be afraid.”

Psalm 46:1-3 — God is “an ever-present help,” so “we will not fear” even if the mountains fall.

Psalm 27:1-3 — “The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?”

Psalm 91:1-2 — The one who dwells in God’s shelter can say, “My refuge and my fortress.”

Psalm 112:6-8 — The righteous “will not fear bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.”

Steady promises from the prophets

Isaiah 41:10 — “Do not fear, for I am with you… I will uphold you with My right hand.”

Isaiah 26:3-4 — Perfect peace for the mind that stays on God, “the Rock eternal.”

Isaiah 43:1-2 — “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you… the fire will not set you ablaze.”

Nahum 1:7 — “The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble.”

Lamentations 3:24-26 — “It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.”

Strength for everyday courage

Joshua 1:9 — “Be strong and courageous… the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Deuteronomy 31:6 — He “will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Words of Jesus that calm the heart

John 14:27 — “Peace I leave with you… Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.”

Matthew 6:25-34 — The Father clothes lilies and feeds sparrows; how much more will He care for you?

Encouragement from the apostles

Philippians 4:6-7 — Trade anxiety for prayer and God’s peace “will guard your hearts.”

2 Timothy 1:7 — God gives “power, love, and self-control,” not fear.

1 Peter 5:6-7 — Cast every anxiety on Him “because He cares for you.”

Hebrews 13:5-6 — “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.”

Romans 8:38-39 — Nothing “will be able to separate us from the love of God” in Christ.

Putting it all together

From trembling Habakkuk to bold Paul, the message is consistent: fear may knock, but faith answers. God is present, powerful, and unfailing. When dread rises, anchor your mind in these passages, rehearse His promises aloud, and choose—as Habakkuk did—to wait quietly, trusting the One who holds every “day of distress” firmly in His hands.

How can we find peace when 'my heart pounded' like Habakkuk's?
