Seek God's will, avoid complacency.
How can we actively seek God's will to prevent spiritual complacency in our lives?

A Sobering Wake-Up Call (Amos 6:1)

“Woe to those at ease in Zion and to those secure on Mount Samaria…”

Why Complacency Creeps In

• Confidence in past blessings rather than in the Lord Himself

• Comfort that dulls urgency for holiness (Luke 12:19–20)

• Prosperity that masks spiritual poverty (Revelation 3:17)

• Ritual without relationship—going through motions but losing first love (Revelation 2:4)

Recognize the Signs

• Prayer life grows mechanical or sporadic

• Scripture reading becomes optional, not essential

• Sin tolerated instead of confessed (Psalm 32:3–5)

• Service replaced by self-focus (Philippians 2:4)

• Loss of joyful expectancy for Christ’s return (1 Thessalonians 5:6)

Anchoring Practices for Actively Seeking God’s Will

• Daily Surrender: “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice…” (Romans 12:1-2). Start each day yielding plans to Him.

• Prayerful Dependence: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart…” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Invite His direction before decisions.

• Fresh Illumination from the Word: “Your word is a lamp to my feet…” (Psalm 119:105). Read, meditate, and obey promptly.

• Spirit-Led Examination: Ask the Spirit to search and expose complacency (Psalm 139:23-24). Repent quickly.

• Active Watchfulness: “Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning” (Luke 12:35). Live as if He could return today.

• Engage in Costly Service: Use gifts to bless others (Galatians 5:13). Complacency shrivels where sacrificial love thrives.

• Generous Stewardship: Hold resources loosely (1 Timothy 6:17-19). Giving redirects the heart toward eternal priorities.

• Accountability in Community: “Stir one another to love and good works” (Hebrews 10:24-25). Invite others to speak truth.

• Continual Thanksgiving: “In everything give thanks” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Gratitude keeps the soul alert to God’s hand.

• Persevering Hope: “Set your hope fully on the grace to be brought to you” (1 Peter 1:13). Future glory fuels present zeal.

Cultivate Godly Grief Over Sin

Amos rebuked those who “are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph” (Amos 6:6). Healthy sorrow leads to change (2 Corinthians 7:10). Ask God to break your heart for what breaks His.

Live Ready, Not Relaxed

• Awake sleeper, “rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you” (Ephesians 5:14).

• “Be zealous and repent” (Revelation 3:19). Complacency melts when zeal for the Lord ignites.

• The faithful servant found working at His coming (Matthew 24:46) will hear, “Well done.”

Stay vigilant, pursue His will daily, and complacency will have no foothold.

Connect Amos 6:1 with Revelation 3:17 on spiritual complacency and self-deception.
