Seek God's wisdom in daily tasks?
How can we seek God's wisdom and understanding in our daily tasks?

Spirit-Filled Skill: Exodus 31:3

“I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, understanding, and ability in all kinds of craftsmanship,” (Exodus 31:3)

God’s Pattern for Everyday Work

• The verse describes Bezalel, yet the principle is timeless: God Himself supplies the wisdom and understanding required for daily tasks.

• Wisdom, understanding, and ability come bundled with His Spirit; they are supernatural resources, not merely human talents.

• If God equips artisans for tent curtains and goldwork, He gladly equips His people for spreadsheets, lesson plans, parenting, and plumbing repairs.

Recognizing the Source

• Wisdom—practical skill in living (Proverbs 2:6).

• Understanding—grasping underlying principles (Psalm 119:34).

• Ability—competence to do the work well (1 Chronicles 28:20).

All three originate in God’s Spirit, never in mere intellect or experience.

Steps to Seek God’s Wisdom in Daily Tasks

1. Yield the task to Him first.

Proverbs 3:5-6—Trust, acknowledge, and watch Him “make your paths straight.”

2. Ask specifically for wisdom.

James 1:5—“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God… and it will be given.”

3. Stay in fellowship with the Spirit.

Ephesians 5:18—Be continually “filled with the Spirit,” the same Spirit who empowered Bezalel.

4. Search the Scriptures for principles related to the task.

Psalm 19:7—The Word “makes wise the simple.”

5. Work diligently, trusting God to energize your effort.

Colossians 3:23—“Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord…”

6. Evaluate results with thanksgiving.

Psalm 90:17—Ask Him to “establish the work of our hands.”

Daily Habits That Keep Wisdom Flowing

• Morning surrender: briefly commit the day’s assignments to God.

• Short Scripture intake: one proverb or psalm linked to your task.

• Moment-by-moment dependence: whisper prayers for insight as issues arise.

• Evening reflection: note where He gave clarity and skill; give thanks.

Encouragement from Other Passages

Daniel 1:17—God gave these young men “knowledge and skill in all learning,” showing He empowers secular studies.

1 Kings 4:29—God “gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight,” proving He supplies leadership acumen.

Acts 6:3—Early deacons needed to be “full of the Spirit and wisdom,” highlighting that even food distribution benefits from divine guidance.

Living It Out

God’s Spirit still fills believers with wisdom, understanding, and ability. Every spreadsheet, diaper change, or board meeting can be Spirit-energized when we consciously depend on Him, invite His wisdom, and act in faith-filled diligence.
