Spotting God's seasonal rains spiritually?
How can we recognize God's "autumn and spring rains" in our spiritual journey?

The Foundational Verse

“Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God, for He has given you the autumn rains for your vindication. He sends showers for you, both autumn and spring rains, as before.” (Joel 2:23)

The Ancient Rhythm of Rain

• Autumn (early) rain—October/November—softens the hardened soil so seed can be planted.

• Spring (latter) rain—March/April—swells the grain and finishes the crop for harvest.

• Both are literal gifts promised by God (Deuteronomy 11:14; Jeremiah 5:24).

Translating Weather to Worship

• God still works in set seasons, moving from preparation to maturation.

• His timing is trustworthy; “His appearance is as sure as the dawn” (Hosea 6:3).

• The rains picture the Spirit’s sustaining work from new birth to ripe fruit.

Recognizing the Autumn Rains in Your Walk

Look for these hallmarks of an “autumn-rain season”:

• Fresh conviction softening long-packed places in the heart.

• New appetite for Scripture, worship, fellowship.

• Promptings to plant: sharing the gospel, starting ministries, sowing generous acts.

• A sense of holy disruption—old routines give way to Spirit-led priorities.

• Promises in the Word becoming personal and specific.

Recognizing the Spring Rains in Your Walk

Signs that God is sending latter rain for harvest:

• Rapid, visible growth in character and gifting.

• Prayers answered in clusters, often after a waiting period (James 5:7).

• Opportunities to reap—people receptive to counsel, salvation, or discipleship.

• Overflowing joy and renewed strength that sustain steady labor (Isaiah 40:31).

• Fruit that remains: testimonies, restored marriages, healed relationships, multiplied disciples.

When the Clouds Seem Delayed

• God’s calendar is precise; apparent pauses train perseverance (Habakkuk 2:3).

• Dry spells deepen roots; they are never evidence of abandonment.

• Keep asking: “Ask the LORD for rain in the springtime; the LORD will make the storm clouds” (Zechariah 10:1).

Joining God in His Showers

• Stay patient and obedient—farmers don’t yank seedlings to speed them up.

• Keep sowing the Word into every circumstance; seed in the ground attracts rain.

• Guard thankfulness; rejoicing invites more showers (Joel 2:23; 1 Thessalonians 5:18).

• Stay alert for assignments that match the season—plant in autumn, harvest in spring.

• Share surplus; the rain that matures you is meant to nourish others (2 Corinthians 9:10).
