How can we trust God's timing in our lives, like David did? David’s Confession of God’s Plan “Now I know for certain that you will surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hands.” (1 Samuel 24:20) • Saul—acknowledging God’s decree—declares what David already believes: the throne is coming at God’s appointed moment. • David has just spared Saul’s life in the cave (1 Samuel 24:6–7), proving he will not force God’s plan. • Scripture records this literally: after perhaps a decade on the run, David still refuses shortcuts. What Trusting God’s Timing Looked Like for David • Restraint instead of retaliation—he refuses to “stretch out my hand” (24:10). • Respect for God’s established order—calling Saul “my lord the king” even while Saul hunts him. • Reliance on God’s vindication—“May the LORD judge between you and me” (24:12). • Resting in the promise first spoken by Samuel (1 Samuel 16:13); David trusts the same God who chose him will enthrone him. Reasons We Can Trust God’s Timing Today • God owns time: “My times are in Your hands” (Psalm 31:15). • He appoints seasons for every matter (Ecclesiastes 3:1). • His schedule is flawless: “Though it lingers, wait for it; it will surely come” (Habakkuk 2:3). • He sent Christ “when the fullness of time had come” (Galatians 4:4)—history’s greatest proof that His clock is perfect. • Delay never equals indifference: “The Lord is not slow… but is patient” (2 Peter 3:9). Practicing Trust While We Wait 1. Remember previous deliverances—David often rehearsed God’s past faithfulness (Psalm 34:4). 2. Refuse shortcuts—if it contradicts Scripture, it is out of season. 3. Speak truth to your soul—“Wait for the LORD; be strong” (Psalm 27:14). 4. Surround yourself with voices of faith—Jonathan’s encouragement (1 Samuel 23:16–17) strengthened David’s resolve. 5. Keep obeying today’s assignments—David protected Nabal’s flocks (1 Samuel 25) and led mighty men long before the crown. Encouragement for Waiting Hearts • “Those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31). • “The LORD will accomplish what concerns me” (Psalm 138:8). • “All things work together for good to those who love God” (Romans 8:28). Living in the Assurance of His Timing God’s calendar is already settled; our role is joyful, patient obedience. Like David, we can stand in caves, lay down the sword, and still believe the crown is coming—because the God who speaks cannot lie and His timing is always right on time. |
