How can we trust God to overcome "giants" in our own lives? “The battle is the LORD’s” – Our Anchor Verse (1 Samuel 17:47) “And this whole assembly will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will deliver you into our hand.” What Made David Different? • He looked beyond the visible giant to the invisible God (v. 45). • He recalled God’s earlier rescues from the lion and the bear (vv. 34–37). • He acted on the conviction that God’s reputation was at stake, not merely his own safety (v. 46). Recognizing the Giants We Face • Overwhelming circumstances: financial crises, sickness, broken relationships. • Internal battles: fear, shame, addiction, doubt. • Cultural pressures: hostility to faith, moral compromise, uncertainty about the future. Steps to Trust God When Giants Roar • Remember past faithfulness – Psalm 77:11 “ I will remember the deeds of the LORD…” – Personal journaling of answered prayers builds confidence. • Magnify God, not the problem – 1 Samuel 17:26 “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine…?” – Worship shifts focus from giant-sized threats to God-sized power. • Stand on God’s Word – Speak Scripture aloud; truth drives out intimidation. • Step forward in obedience – 1 Samuel 17:48 “David ran quickly toward the battle line…” – Faith grows as we act, not as we linger in analysis. • Use spiritual weapons – Ephesians 6:10-18; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5. – Prayer, Scripture, righteousness, and gospel readiness are God-issued armor. • Expect God’s glory – 1 Samuel 17:46 “That all the earth may know there is a God in Israel.” – Victories are platforms to make Him known. Promises That Slay Fear • Deuteronomy 31:6 – God never leaves nor forsakes. • Isaiah 41:10 – He strengthens, helps, upholds. • Psalm 34:4 – He delivers from all fears. • Romans 8:31-32 – If God is for us, who can be against us? • 2 Timothy 1:7 – Spirit of power, love, and self-control—not fear. A Lifestyle of Giant-Slaying Faith • Daily cultivate intimacy with God; private worship precedes public victory. • Surround yourself with faith-filled community (Hebrews 10:24-25). • Celebrate each victory, however small, to train your heart for larger battles. • Keep your eyes on the greater Son of David—Jesus—who conquered sin and death, proving once for all that every giant falls before the Lord of hosts (Colossians 2:15; Revelation 5:5). |
