Trusting God's control amid uncertainty?
How can we trust God's control when facing life's uncertainties, as in Job 9:6?

Setting the Scene

Job, the righteous sufferer, stares into the mystery of God’s sovereignty. In Job 9:6 he declares, “He shakes the earth from its place, so that its pillars tremble”. Job’s words picture a God whose power reaches beneath the bedrock of creation—nothing lies outside His hand.

Observing the Verse

•“He shakes the earth” – God’s actions affect even the most stable realities.

•“from its place” – He can relocate what seems immovable.

•“so that its pillars tremble” – Foundations quake at His touch, underscoring absolute authority.

Linking Job 9:6 to Life’s Uncertainties

•Our “pillars” can be careers, health, relationships, finances.

•When those pillars tremble, the verse reminds us the shaking is never random; it is permitted or initiated by the same God who set the pillars in place.

•If He governs the earth’s stability, He surely governs the smaller arenas of our lives.

Why God’s Control Can Be Trusted

1.His power is limitless.

Psalm 46:2-3 – mountains slip into the heart of the sea, yet God remains our refuge.

Colossians 1:17 – “in Him all things hold together.”

2.His character is unchanging.

Malachi 3:6 – “I, the LORD, do not change.”

James 1:17 – every good gift comes from the Father “who does not change like shifting shadows.”

3.His purposes are good.

Romans 8:28 – He works “all things together for good” to those who love Him.

Genesis 50:20 – what others intend for evil, God transforms for good.

4.His knowledge is perfect.

Isaiah 46:9-10 – He declares “the end from the beginning.”

5.His care is personal.

Matthew 10:29-31 – not even a sparrow falls apart from the Father’s will, and we are worth more than many sparrows.

Practicing Trust Day by Day

•Rehearse truth aloud: read passages like Psalm 62:5-8 each morning.

•Replace “what-ifs” with “even-ifs”: even if the earth shakes, God reigns.

•Cultivate gratitude: keep a running list of God’s past faithfulness.

•Anchor decisions in Scripture, not emotion.

•Share testimonies of God’s control with fellow believers; hearing His works strengthens faith.

Scriptures that Echo the Same Truth

Psalm 55:22 – “Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you.”

Hebrews 1:3 – the Son “upholds all things by His powerful word.”

Isaiah 41:10 – “Do not fear, for I am with you… I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Courage for the Journey Ahead

Life’s uncertainties may rattle our personal pillars, yet the God who can shake or steady the earth remains unwavering. Because He is both all-powerful and perfectly good, we can rest in His control, confident that every tremor ultimately moves us toward His wise, loving purposes.
