Trusting God's plan in life's changes?
How can we trust God's plan when facing major life changes like Jacob?

Leaving the Familiar

“Then Jacob set out from Beersheba. Israel’s sons took their father Jacob and their children and wives in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to transport him.” (Genesis 46:5)

God Speaks Before the Journey

• In Beersheba, the Lord reassured Jacob:

“I am God, the God of your father,” He said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will surely bring you back again.” (Genesis 46:3-4)

• God confirmed:

– His identity (“I am God”)

– His command (“Do not be afraid”)

– His purpose (“make you into a great nation”)

– His presence (“I will go with you”)

– His guarantee (“I will surely bring you back”)

Why This Matters for Us

Like Jacob, we face moves, career changes, diagnoses, empty nests. Trust grows when we remember:

• God initiates change for His redemptive purposes.

• Obedience rests on promises, not circumstances.

• The Lord never sends without going along.

Scripture Echoes

Proverbs 3:5-6 — Trust, acknowledge, and He directs.

Isaiah 41:10 — “I am with you… I will uphold you.”

Romans 8:28 — All things work together for good.

Hebrews 11:8-10 — Abraham obeyed and went, “looking forward to the city… built by God.”

Steps to Trust God’s Plan During Major Life Changes

1. Pause and seek confirmation from His Word, as Jacob did at Beersheba.

2. Recall God’s past faithfulness (Genesis 32:10; Psalm 77:11).

3. Embrace the promise of His presence—“I will go with you” (Matthew 28:20).

4. Move in obedience, even when details remain unclear (2 Corinthians 5:7).

5. Anticipate fruitfulness on the other side of obedience—Egypt became the incubator of Israel’s growth.

Practical Application Checklist

• Write down every verse God highlights before a transition.

• Share the promises with family for collective courage, just as Jacob’s sons traveled with him.

• Simplify: release anything that hinders relocation of heart or geography (Hebrews 12:1).

• Celebrate small confirmations—a job offer, housing, new friendships—as evidence of His guiding hand.

• Keep eternity in view; every earthly move advances an everlasting kingdom (2 Corinthians 4:17-18).

Promises to Stand On When Life Shifts

Psalm 32:8 — “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.”

Joshua 1:9 — “Be strong and courageous… the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

John 10:27-28 — His sheep hear His voice; no one can snatch them from His hand.

The Outcome

Jacob’s obedience preserved his family during famine, positioned them for multiplication, and set the stage for redemption’s larger story. Our surrendered transitions become chapters in the same unfolding plan, authored by the God who still rides in the wagon with His people.
