Trusting God's promises like nature's order?
How can we trust God's promises like the "fixed order" in Jeremiah 31:35?

Setting the Scene: Jeremiah 31:35

“Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for a light by day, who sets in order the moon and stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—the LORD of Hosts is His name:” (Jeremiah 31:35)

What “Fixed Order” Means

- God Himself “sets in order” (literally, establishes) the cycles of sun, moon, stars, and sea.

- This order is observable, repeatable, and dependable; the heavens obey the command issued at creation (Genesis 1:14–18).

- By pointing to this cosmic regularity, the Lord stakes His promises to Israel—and by extension every promise He makes—on something visible every single day and night.

Creation’s Stability Mirrors God’s Faithfulness

- Genesis 8:22: “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest… day and night shall never cease.”

- Psalm 119:89: “Your word, O LORD, is everlasting; it is firmly fixed in the heavens.”

- If the natural rhythms God instituted never fail, His covenant words will never fail.

The Character Behind the Promise

- Numbers 23:19: God does not lie or change His mind.

- Hebrews 6:17-18: Two unchangeable things—God’s nature and His oath—make His promises impossible to break.

- Psalm 89:34: “I will not violate My covenant or alter the utterance of My lips.”

Because the Promise-Giver is immutable, His promises are as secure as the rising sun.

History Proves the Point

- Israel’s return from exile (Jeremiah 30–33) happened exactly as foretold, showing the “fixed order” principle in action.

- Every fulfilled prophecy—birth of Christ (Micah 5:2; Luke 2:4-7), His resurrection (Psalm 16:10; Acts 2:31)—is a historical marker that God keeps His word.

Living Out Trust in God’s Promises

- Start the day by noting the sunrise; let it remind you that God is already keeping a promise before you speak a word.

- Anchor personal hopes to specific Scriptures (e.g., John 10:28 for eternal security, Philippians 4:19 for provision).

- When doubts arise, rehearse past instances of God’s faithfulness in your own life—answered prayers, provision, protection.

- Encourage others by pointing them to the same unchanging order: “If the stars are still shining, His promise to you still stands.”

A Daily Invitation to Confidence

- Lamentations 3:22-23: Fresh mercies greet us “every morning,” just as the sun does.

- Isaiah 40:8: “The word of our God stands forever.”

Therefore, every dawn and every starlit night silently preach: God’s covenant, His salvation, and His personal promises to His children remain unshakable.
