How can we trust God's provision as seen in Deuteronomy 2:19's instructions? Setting the Scene in Deuteronomy 2:19 “ ‘When you come to the Ammonites, do not harass or provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of the land of the Ammonites as an inheritance, because I have given it to the descendants of Lot as a possession.’ ” (Deuteronomy 2:19) The Principle: God Sets Boundaries for Our Good • God claims ownership over every territory (Psalm 24:1) and allocates it as He pleases. • Israel is asked to respect Ammon’s borders because God had already promised that land to Lot’s descendants (Genesis 19:36–38). • By obeying, Israel confesses that God’s distribution is wiser and more generous than any self-made plan. Trusting Provision When God Says “Not Here” • Saying “no” in one place means God has a “yes” prepared elsewhere (Joshua 1:2–3). • God’s refusal guards us from unnecessary conflict and loss (Proverbs 10:22). • Refusing to covet another’s portion keeps hearts content and uncluttered for the inheritance still ahead (Hebrews 13:5). Lessons for Today • God’s boundaries—moral, relational, financial—are protective fences, not prison walls. • Provision flows inside those fences; outside is frustration and scarcity (Psalm 37:18–19). • Contentment grows when we celebrate what God assigns to others, knowing our portion is on schedule (Philippians 4:11–13). • The same God who withheld Ammon yet granted Canaan still promises, “My God will supply all your needs” (Philippians 4:19). Responding in Faith • Identify areas where God is clearly saying “not here” and stop striving there. • Thank Him aloud for the boundaries that protect and guide. • Focus expectation on the inheritance He has promised, confident that “the LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1). |
