Use God's past wins in today's battles?
How can we apply God's past victories to current spiritual battles we face?

Setting the Scene in Amos 2:9

“Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, though his height was like the height of cedars and he was as strong as the oaks; I destroyed his fruit above and his roots below.”

God reminds Israel that He crushed a towering, deeply rooted enemy—total victory, top to bottom. That same God stands behind every believer today.

God’s Track Record: Unchanging Power

Exodus 14: “The LORD saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians” (v. 30).

Joshua 6: The walls of Jericho fell without a single swing of a sword.

1 Samuel 17:37: “The LORD … will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”

2 Chronicles 20:22: Praise triggered ambushes against Judah’s foes.

Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Why Revisiting Past Victories Matters Today

• Rekindles faith—if He did it then, He will do it now.

• Exposes the enemy’s bluff—giants look big, but God has felled bigger.

• Guards against fear and discouragement (Psalm 77:11-12).

• Fuels worship, which itself is a weapon (Acts 16:25-26).

Practical Ways to Apply God’s Past Victories to Present Battles

1. Rehearse Scripture out loud.

2 Corinthians 1:10: “He has delivered us … He will deliver us again.”

2. Keep a personal “memorial stone” journal. Record every answered prayer; reread when pressure mounts.

3. Pray from the precedent. “Lord, You uprooted the Amorites; uproot this stronghold in my life.”

4. Replace worry with worship. Sing the songs of victories past (Psalm 40:3).

5. Speak faith to others. Our testimonies strengthen the whole body (Revelation 12:11).

6. Stand in obedience. Past victories came as Israel marched forward; fear freezes, faith advances (James 4:7).

Taking Hold of Victory in Daily Spiritual Warfare

• Identify the current battle—temptation, doubt, oppression.

• Locate a matching precedent in Scripture.

• Declare God’s former triumph and His unchanging character.

• Act in line with victory: forgive, confess, resist, or serve.

• Thank Him in advance, expecting fruit above and roots below to be destroyed.
