Use Samson's story to resist temptation?
How can we apply Samson's experience to resist temptation in our lives?

When Strength Slips Away

“Then she cried out, ‘Samson, the Philistines are upon you!’ He awoke from his sleep and thought, ‘I will escape as I did before and shake myself free.’ But he did not know that the LORD had departed from him.” — Judges 16:20

Spotting the Temptation Trap

• Samson’s repeated visits to Delilah’s house show the danger of lingering near sin (Judges 16:4–9).

Proverbs 4:14–15 urges, “Do not set foot on the path of the wicked… avoid it; do not travel on it.”

• Application: Cut off occasions to sin early—uninstall the app, block the site, change the route home.

Trusting in God, Not in Yesterday’s Victories

• Samson assumed his past triumphs guaranteed present strength.

1 Corinthians 10:12 cautions, “So the one who thinks he is standing firm should be careful not to fall.”

• Application: Depend daily on the Spirit, not on past spiritual highs or reputation.

Guarding the Source of Strength

• Samson’s hair symbolized his Nazarite vow—his consecration to God (Judges 13:5).

Psalm 91:1 reminds that power flows from dwelling “in the shelter of the Most High.”

• Application: Protect time in Scripture, worship, and fellowship; neglect of these weakens spiritual vitality.

Listening to Godly Counsel, Not Flattery

• Delilah pressed Samson “daily with her words” (Judges 16:16).

Proverbs 27:6: “Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.”

• Application: Surround yourself with believers who speak truth, even when it stings, and avoid voices that seduce toward compromise.

Fleeing, Not Toying with Sin

• Samson stayed in Delilah’s lap until his hair was cut.

2 Timothy 2:22 exhorts, “Flee the evil desires of youth.”

• Application: Temptation loses power when we create distance—physically, digitally, emotionally.

Living in Ongoing Repentance

• Though Samson fell, God heard his final cry (Judges 16:28–30).

1 John 1:9 promises forgiveness and cleansing when we confess.

• Application: When we stumble, return immediately to the Lord; He restores and refits us for service.

In what ways can we ensure we remain aware of God's presence daily?
