Use Solomon's strategy in faith work?
How can we apply Solomon's strategic planning in our own faith-based endeavors?

Reading the Verse

“King Solomon also built a fleet of ships at Ezion-geber, which is near Eloth in Edom, on the shore of the Red Sea.” (1 Kings 9:26)

Strategic Insight 1: Secure the Right Location

• Solomon chose Ezion-geber—an existing port with direct access to lucrative trade routes.

Proverbs 24:27 echoes the wisdom: “Complete your work outside…; afterward build your house.” Identify the setting that positions your ministry or project for maximum impact.

• Application: Before launching a new outreach, prayerfully assess where the need is greatest and where resources naturally converge.

Strategic Insight 2: Leverage Skilled Partnerships

1 Kings 9:27-28 and 10:11-12 show Solomon partnering with Hiram of Tyre for seasoned sailors and shipbuilders.

Proverbs 15:22—“Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”

• Application: Invite trusted believers with complementary gifts—administrators, fund-raisers, intercessors, mentors—to strengthen what God has placed on your heart.

Strategic Insight 3: Invest for the Long Haul

• A fleet is costly; Solomon committed treasure, manpower, and time.

Luke 14:28 reminds us to “count the cost.”

• Application: Budget realistically, allocate time for training, and plan for ongoing maintenance rather than quick, short-term fixes.

Strategic Insight 4: Maintain Focus on the Mission

• Solomon’s ships were not vanity projects; they brought back gold, almug wood, and precious stones for the temple and kingdom (1 Kings 10:11-12).

Colossians 3:23—“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

• Application: Keep the end goal—glorifying God and expanding His kingdom—at the center of every strategic choice.

Strategic Insight 5: Expect God-Honoring Returns

• The fleet yielded wealth that financed worship and national blessing.

Proverbs 3:9-10 promises overflowing barns when we honor the Lord with our firstfruits.

• Application: Anticipate that faithful planning, executed in obedience, will yield spiritual and practical dividends that further God’s purposes.

Putting It All Together

1. Pray for discernment about place, timing, and partners.

2. Gather a team of skilled, like-minded believers.

3. Count the cost and prepare thoroughly.

4. Keep every decision tethered to God’s revealed mission.

5. Look expectantly for fruit that will bless others and magnify the Lord.

What can we learn from Solomon's actions about using resources for God's glory?
