Why is giving God glory essential to our relationship with Him? Psalm 96:8 — Call to Glory “Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering and enter His courts.” Glory Defined • “To give glory” means to acknowledge God’s weight, worth, and absolute supremacy. • Scripture treats this as factual, not figurative; He is objectively glorious, and we are summoned to state that truth aloud and live by it. Why God Deserves Glory • He is Creator (Revelation 4:11). • He is Holy (Isaiah 6:3). • He is Redeemer (Ephesians 1:7–8). • His glory fills the earth already; our praise agrees with reality (Psalm 19:1). Glory and Relationship • Affirming His glory is the proper posture between creature and Creator. • It honors His name, which He values above all (Psalm 138:2). • It aligns our hearts with His purposes, producing intimacy (James 4:8). • It magnifies His presence among His people (Psalm 22:3). How We Give Glory • Worship — verbal praise, singing, and thanksgiving (Psalm 29:2). • Obedience — doing His will displays His worth (1 Samuel 15:22). • Everyday conduct — “Whether you eat or drink…do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). • Good works that point beyond us to Him (Matthew 5:16). Blessings of Glorifying God • We experience joy in His nearness (Psalm 16:11). • Our faith is strengthened as we recall His attributes (Psalm 145:3–7). • We become increasingly conformed to Christ, “the radiance of God’s glory” (Hebrews 1:3). Failing to Glorify — The Warning • “Although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks…” (Romans 1:21). • Refusal to glorify leads to darkened thinking and broken fellowship. Living a Life of Glory • Make glorifying God the first and last word of each day. • Let every decision pass the test: Will this display His greatness? • As Psalm 96:8 commands, bring an offering—yourself—into His courts with continual praise. |
