Why seek God over mediums today?
Why should we seek God instead of "mediums and spiritists" for guidance today?

Anchor Verse

“When they say to you, ‘Consult the spirits of the dead and the spiritists who chirp and mutter,’ should not a people consult their God instead? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?” – Isaiah 8:19

God Speaks; His Word Is Sufficient

• Scripture presents God as the only true source of light and truth (Psalm 119:105; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

• Isaiah’s appeal rests on the assumption that God has already spoken clearly; seeking extra revelation from the dead implies His revelation is inadequate, which it is not.

Hebrews 1:1-2 points to God’s ultimate self-disclosure in His Son. Turning elsewhere undervalues what has been given.

Divine Prohibition of Mediums and Spiritists

Leviticus 19:31: “You must not turn to mediums or seek spiritists; do not be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.”

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 lists spiritism among detestable practices that provoke God’s judgment.

1 Chronicles 10:13-14 records Saul’s death “because he was unfaithful… and consulted a medium for guidance,” underscoring the seriousness of the offense.

Why These Practices Are Spiritually Dangerous

• Counterfeit Revelation: 2 Corinthians 11:14 warns that “Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” False spirits mimic truth to mislead.

• Bondage, Not Freedom: Engaging the occult opens doors to fear and oppression (Acts 16:16-18).

• Disconnection from God: Seeking the dead replaces intimacy with the living God, leading to spiritual drought (Jeremiah 2:13).

Practical Reasons to Seek God Alone Today

1. Reliability: God’s character is unchanging (Malachi 3:6); mediums traffic in uncertain voices.

2. Clarity: His Word is objective and testable; occult messages are ambiguous and contradictory.

3. Peace: Philippians 4:6-7 promises peace when requests are brought to God, not anxiety through forbidden channels.

4. Wisdom: James 1:5—“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God… and it will be given to him.”

5. Relationship: Guidance flows from knowing God personally (John 10:27). Consulting spirits short-circuits that relationship.

How to Seek God’s Guidance Biblically

• Immerse in Scripture: The Holy Spirit illuminates truth already revealed (John 14:26).

• Pray with Expectation: Hebrews 4:16 invites believers to God’s throne for timely help.

• Seek Godly Counsel: Proverbs 15:22 emphasizes wisdom found in righteous advisers, not occult channels.

• Walk in Obedience: Psalm 25:14 links divine guidance with a reverent, obedient heart.

Summary: The Living God, the Only Safe Guide

Isaiah 8:19 confronts every generation with a choice: the living voice of God or the muttering of the dead. Scripture’s prohibition, the spiritual dangers of spiritism, and the all-sufficient, peace-giving guidance of God Himself unite in a single call—turn away from mediums and spiritists, and seek the Lord who speaks truth, offers wisdom, and leads His people in life.
