Why share experiences with believers?
Why is it important to share our experiences with fellow believers, as the apostles did?

Setting the Scene in Luke 9:10

“Upon their return, the apostles reported to Jesus all they had done. Then He took them with Him and withdrew privately to a town called Bethsaida.”

Shared Testimonies Strengthen Faith

• The apostles “reported” to Jesus—immediate, honest sharing is a biblical norm.

Psalm 107:2: “Let the redeemed of the LORD say so.” Speaking out confirms God’s work to ourselves and to listeners.

Romans 10:17: “Faith comes by hearing.” When believers hear firsthand accounts, faith is fed fresh evidence of God’s power.

Encouraging Perseverance Through Mutual Witness

Acts 4:20: “For we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Mutual testimony fuels courage in hostile settings.

Hebrews 10:24-25 urges believers to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” Stories of victory or endurance keep weary hearts from quitting.

Modeling Obedience and Dependence on Christ

• The apostles’ reports highlighted how Jesus supplied authority, provision, and protection (Luke 9:1-6).

1 Corinthians 11:1: “Imitate me, as I imitate Christ.” When believers share experiences, they give living patterns for others to follow.

Catalyst for Multiplication and Mission

2 Timothy 2:2: “What you have heard from me… entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” Testimony transfers vision across generations.

Revelation 12:11: “They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” Spoken experience is a weapon that advances the gospel.

Guarding Against Isolation and Deception

Malachi 3:16: “Then those who feared the LORD spoke with one another… and a book of remembrance was written.” Shared stories anchor us to God’s truth, preventing the enemy’s lies from taking root.

Proverbs 18:1 warns that isolation leads to error; open fellowship provides accountability and balance.

Comforting Others with the Comfort We Receive

2 Corinthians 1:3-4: God “comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble.” Personal testimony transforms private deliverance into public ministry.

1 John 1:3 links fellowship directly to declared experience: “What we have seen and heard we proclaim to you… so that you also may have fellowship with us.”

Practical Ways to Share Experiences Today

• Include a “God-sightings” time in small groups or family worship.

• Write brief testimonies and circulate them via email or church bulletins.

• Pair mature believers with newer ones for intentional story-sharing over coffee.

• Integrate testimonies into worship services—five-minute segments keep the congregation expectant.

• Use social media wisely: short, Scripture-anchored updates spotlighting God’s faithfulness reach beyond local circles.

Sharing experiences, as modeled in Luke 9:10, is not optional—it is God’s designed means to build faith, foster unity, guard truth, and propel mission until Christ returns.
