Woman's faith: trust Jesus in trials?
How does the woman's faith challenge us to trust Jesus in difficult times?

Setting the Scene

Luke 8:43–44 sets the moment: “A woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years, who had spent all her living on physicians but could not be healed by anyone, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.”

The Woman’s Situation: Twelve Long Years

• Chronic illness—twelve years of nonstop bleeding

• Complete financial depletion—“spent all her living on physicians”

• Social and ceremonial isolation (Leviticus 15:25–27)

• No earthly remedy left—yet she still believed healing was possible

Unwavering Faith in the Midst of Hopelessness

• She accepted the literal reports of Jesus’ power and acted on them.

• Her faith looked beyond experience and expert opinion.

• She believed the slightest contact with Jesus was enough: “If I only touch His garments, I will be healed” (Mark 5:28).

Reaching Out in Desperation

• Faith moved her through the crowd (Luke 8:42b).

• She touched “the fringe” (Greek: kraspedon) of His cloak—likely the tassel commanded in Numbers 15:38–39, a physical reminder of God’s Word.

• Her action joined confidence in Jesus with obedience to Scripture symbolism.

Jesus’ Immediate Response

• Physical reality: “immediately her bleeding stopped.”

• Personal recognition: “Who touched Me?” (Luke 8:45).

• Public affirmation: “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace” (Luke 8:48).

• Jesus not only cures her body but restores her identity and peace.

Lessons for Our Faith Today

• Difficult seasons can stretch far longer than we expect, yet God remains able.

• When resources are exhausted, Christ’s sufficiency stands out more clearly (2 Corinthians 12:9).

• Faith takes concrete steps: praying, obeying Scripture, seeking Christ’s presence.

• Jesus honors even seemingly small, hidden acts of trust; He notices the individual.

• Peace follows faith—He transforms fear into assurance (John 14:27).

Confirming Scriptures

Psalm 34:17–18 — “The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears…”

Hebrews 11:6 — “Without faith it is impossible to please God…”

Isaiah 40:31 — “Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.”

Philippians 4:6–7 — Anxiety traded for guarded hearts and minds in Christ.

1 Peter 5:7 — “Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”

Encouragement for Our Journey

• The woman’s story is historical fact and living testimony: Jesus truly heals.

• Her perseverance urges us to keep pressing toward Him, however crowded the obstacles.

• When hardships linger, let her example invite us to reach for the Savior’s unchanging power and experience His immediate, personal care.

In what ways can we seek Jesus' help in our own persistent struggles?
