1And David consulted with leaders of the army - the officers of thousands and hundreds. 2And David said to them all: “If it seems good to you, and that it is the will of the LORD our God, let us send invitations to all our brethren in all the land of Israel, and to the priests and Levites who are in their cities and suburbs, to come and join us. 3And let us bring the ark of our God back to us; for we neglected it during the days of Saul.” 4And the entire assembly agreed that it was the right thing to do. 5So David assembled all Israel - from Shihor of Egypt to the entrance of Hammath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim. 6And David went up, with all Israel, to Baalah, (Kiriath-jearim) of Judah, to bring the ark of God, the LORD, Who dwells between the cherubim, where the Name is called on, up from there. 7And they placed the ark of God in a new cart from the house of Abinadab; and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart. 8And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, with singing, harps, psalteries, timbrels, cymbals, and with trumpets. 9But when they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzza put out his hand to steady the ark, when the oxen stumbled. 10And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and He struck him, because he put his hand on the ark; and he died there before God. 11And David was displeased, because the LORD had broken forth upon Uzza; therefore, that place is called “Perez-uzza” (meaning “to burst out against Uzzah”) to this day. 12And David was afraid of God that day, and asked, “How shall I ever bring the ark of God back under my care?” 13So at that time, David did not bring the ark back to the city of David; but took it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. 14And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house for three months. And the LORD blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had. Reader-Friendly Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2024 by Jim Musser. Used by Permission. All rights Reserved. Bible Hub |
