1Then the word of the LORD came to Jehu, son of Hanani, concerning Baasha: 2I exalted you (Baasha) from the dust, and made you ruler of My people, Israel; but you have followed the ways of Jeroboam, and have caused My people, Israel, to sin, to provoke Me to anger with their sins, 3So I am about to destroy all your descendants and your posterity, Baasha; and will make your house (family) like that of Jeroboam, son of Nebat. 4Any members of Baasha who die in the city, the dogs will eat; and any that die in the fields, the birds of the air will eat.”

5Now the rest of the acts of Baasha, and what he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 6So Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah; and Elah, his son, reigned in his stead.

7And the word of the LORD also came through the prophet Jehu, son of Hanani, against Baasha, and his house (family), for all the evil that he did in the eyes of the LORD, in provoking Him to anger by his deeds, acting like the house of Jeroboam; and because Baasha murdered Nadab.

8In the twenty-sixth year of Asa, king of Judah, Elah, son of Baasha, began his two-year reign over Israel in Tirzah. 9And Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against Elah, when he was drinking in the house of Arza, steward of his house in Tirzah, until he was drunk. 10In the twenty-seventh year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Zimri went in and killed Elah and reigned in Israel in his stead. 11As soon as Zimri ascended to the throne to begin his reign, he murdered all the members of Baasha’s family, leaving him no son, relative, or friend alive. 12And so Zimri destroyed all the family of Baasha, just as the word of the LORD said, when He spoke against Baasha by Jehu, the prophet, 13For all the sins of both Baasha, and of Elah, his son, that caused Israel to sin, provoking the LORD God of Israel to anger with their worthless idols.

14Now the rest of the acts of Elah, and what he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

15In the twenty-seventh year of Asa, king of Judah, Zimri reigned for seven days in Tirzah. The army was engaged in a siege of Gibbethon, a town of the Philistines. 16And those so engaged heard, “Zimri has conspired, and assassinated the king”; so, in the camp on that very day, Israel proclaimed Omri, the commander of the army, king of Israel. 17And Omri and the Israelite army withdrew from Gibbethon, and went and besieged Tirzah. 18And when Zimri saw that the city was about to be taken, he went into his palace; and burned it down over him, and died, 19For his sins he committed, doing evil in the eyes of the LORD, in the same ones that Jeroboam committed, causing Israel to sin.

20Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and the treason he committed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

21Then the people of Israel were divided: half of the people followed Tibni, son of Ginath, to make him king; while the other half followed Omri. 22But the people who followed Omri prevailed against those who followed Tibni, son of Ginath; so Tibni was killed, and Omri reigned over Israel.

23In the thirty-first year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Omri began his twelve-year reign over Israel; six of them in Tirzah. 24And he bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver, and built a city on the hill, and called the city he built “Samaria”, after the name of Shemer, the former owner of the hill. 25But Omri did evil in the eyes of the LORD - worse than all who were before him. 26For he followed all the ways of Jeroboam, son of Nebat, and the sins by which he caused Israel to sin, to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger with their detestable idols.

27Now the rest of what Omri did, and the power that he exercised, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 28So Omri died, and was buried in Samaria; and Ahab, his son, reigned in his stead.

29In the thirty-eighth year of Asa’s reign in Judah, Ahab, son of Omri, began to reign in Israel; and Ahab reigned twenty-two years over Israel in Samaria. 30And Ahab did evil in the eyes of the LORD – worse than all who went before him. 31And, as if it had not been enough for him to commit the sins of Jeroboam, he took as his wife, Jezebel, the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians, and went and served, and worshipped Baal. 32And he set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. 33And Ahab set up an Asherah pole; and did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who went before him.

34In Ahab’s days Hiel, of Bethel, rebuilt Jericho: he laid its foundation in (at the cost of) Abiram, his first-born, and set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son, Segub, according to the word of the LORD, spoken by Joshua, son of Nun (Joshua 5:26).
