1And after this David defeated and subdued the Philistines; and took Metheg-ammah from the Philistines. 2And he defeated the Moabites, and made them lie on the ground in three lines and measured them with a measuring cord: every two lengths that he measured he put to death, and third was kept alive. And the Moabites he kept alive became David's servants, and brought gifts. 3David also defeated Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as David restored his border along the Euphrates River. 4And David captured a thousand chariots, seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen from Hadadezer; and he hamstrung all the chariot horses, except for a hundred he reserved for his own chariots. 5And when the Syrians (Arameans) of Damascus came to aid Hadadezer, David killed twenty-two thousand of them. 6Then David put garrisons in Syria of the kingdom of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought him gifts. And the LORD made David victorious wherever he went. 7And David took the shields of gold of the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. 8And King David took very much bronze from Betah, and Berothai, cities of Hadadezer. 9When Toi, king of Hamath, heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer, 10Toi sent Joram, his son, to king David, to greet him, and to bless him, for defeating Hadadezer; for Hadadezer had waged war with Toi. And Joram brought with him vessels of silver, gold, and of bronze, 11Which King David also dedicated unto the LORD, as he had done with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued - 12Of Syria, Moab, Ammon, the Philistines, and of Amalek, as well as the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah. 13And David gained a reputation for himself after he returned from killing eighteen thousand Syrians in the valley of salt. 14And he put garrisons throughout all Edom, and all the Edomites became David's servants. And the LORD gave David victory wherever he went. 15And David reigned over all Israel; and executed justice and righteousness for all his people. 16And Joab, son of Zeruiah, was commander of the army; and Jehoshaphat, son of Ahilud, was recorder (royal historian); 17Zadok, son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech, son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Seraiah was the scribe; 18And Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites (special body-guards); and David's sons served as priestly leaders.
