1And David said, “Is there anyone left of the house of Saul, to whom I may show kindness for Jonathan's sake?” 2And there was of the house of Saul a servant named Ziba. And when they had summoned him, David asked him, “Are you Ziba?” And he said, “I, your servant, am he.” 3And the king asked, “Is there not any of the house of Saul left alive, that I may show the kindness of God to him?” And Ziba said, “Jonathan still has a son, who is crippled.” 4And the king asked, “Where is he?” And Ziba replied, “He is in the house of Machir, son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar.” 5Then king David sent, and fetched him from the house of Machir in Lo-debar. 6Now when Mephibosheth, son of Jonathan, grandson of Saul, came before David, he bowed low to pay him honor. And David said, “Mephibosheth.” And he answered, “Behold your servant!” 7And David said, “Fear not; for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan, your father's sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul, your grandfather; and you shall eat regularly at my table.” 8And he bowed and said, “What am I, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I am?” 9Then the king called Ziba, Saul's servant, and said, “I have given to your master's son all that belonged to Saul and his family. 10Therefore, you, your sons, and your servants, shall till the land, and harvest the fruits for Mephibosheth, that he may have food to eat; but Mephibosheth shall also always eat at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. 11Then Ziba said, “I, your servant shall do according to all that my lord, the king, has commanded.” “As for Mephibosheth”, said the king, “he shall eat at my table, just like one of the king's sons.” 12And Mephibosheth had a young son, named Micha. And all who lived in the house of Ziba were servants to Mephibosheth. 13So Mephibosheth, who was crippled in both legs. lived in Jerusalem; and he ate regularly at the king's table.
