Deuteronomy 24

If a man marries a woman, and she displeases him because he has found some indecency about her; then let him write and give to her a bill (certificate) of divorcement, and send her from his house. 2And after she has left his house, she may go and be another man's wife. 3And if the second husband also disdains her, and writes and presents her with a bill of divorcement, and sends her from his house; or if the second husband dies, 4Her former husband, who divorced her, may not take her back again as his wife, after she is defiled; for that would be detestable to the LORD. Do not bring sin upon the land that the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance.

“When a man has recently taken a new wife, he shall not be sent off to war, nor shall he be charged with any other duty; but he shall be free at home for one year, and bring cheer to his wife he has taken.

“No man shall take either the lower or the upper millstone for a pledge (security); it would be taking a man's livelihood as a pledge.

“If a man kidnaps any of his fellow Israelites, and makes him a slave, or sells him; then that man must die; you shall purge such evil from among you.

“Take heed regarding the plague of leprosy, that you diligently observe, and do according to all that the Levitical priests shall teach you: as I commanded them, so shall you observe to do. 9Remember what the LORD, your God, did to Miriam along the way, after you had come out of Egypt.

“When you lend anything to your neighbor, you shall not go into his house to get what he offered as his pledge. 11You shall stay outside, and the man to whom you lend shall bring the pledge out to you. 12And if the man is poor, do not sleep with his pledge in your possession: 13You shall return his cloak to him when the sun goes down, so that he may sleep in it, and bless you; and it shall be counted righteousness to you before the LORD your God.

“You must not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is a fellow Israelite, or a sojourner who is in your land and within your towns. 15At the end of his day you must pay him his wages, before the sun goes down; for he is poor, and is counting on it; so that he does not cry against you to the LORD, and it becomes sin to you.

“Parents shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall the children be put to death for the parents; everyone shall die for their own sin.

“You must not pervert the justice that is due to the stranger, nor the fatherless; nor take a widow's clothing for a pledge; 18Remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and the LORD, your God, redeemed you from there: that is why I (Moses) command you to do this.

“When you harvest your field, and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to fetch it; it shall be left for the stranger, the fatherless, and for the widow, so that the LORD, your God, may bless you in all the work of your hands. 20When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs a second time; you shall leave what remains for the sojourner, the fatherless, and for the widow. 21When you gather the grapes from your vineyard, you shall not glean it afterward; that, too, shall be left for the sojourner, the fatherless, and for the widow. 22Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; that is why I command you to do this thing.
