1And Abram left Egypt, with his wife, nephew Lot, and all his possessions, and went north into the Negev.

2And Abram had become very wealthy in cattle, silver, and gold. 3And he traveled from the Negev to Bethel, to the place where he had pitched his tent at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai; 4And where he had first built an altar; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD. 5And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks, herds, and tents. 6And the land was not able to sustain them all, while dwelling together; for their holdings were too great to remain together. 7And conflict arose between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle; and the Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land then. 8Finally, Abram said to Lot, “Let there be no strife between me and you, or between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brothers. 9Is not the whole land before you? Choose for yourself, I pray you, where you want to go: if you take the left, then I will go to the right; or if you choose the right, then I will go to the left.” 10And Lot looked around, and saw all the fertile plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere, (this was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah), like the garden of the LORD, or like the plain of Egypt, toward Zoar. 11So then Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan; and set off to the east; and thus, they separated from one another. 12Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain, and settled among the cities toward Sodom. 13But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinners before the LORD.

14And the LORD said to Abram, after Lot had departed from him, “Lift up now your eyes, and look, from where you stand, northward, southward, eastward, and westward: 15For I will give all the land that you see to you and to your seed (posterity) forever. 16And I will make your offspring as numerous as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can count the dust of the earth, then your offspring can also be numbered (counted). 17Go, walk through the land - the length and the breadth of it; for I am giving it to you.” 18Then Abram moved his camp and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, at Hebron, and there he built an altar unto the LORD.
