1And in the days of Amraphel, king of Shinar, Arioch, king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, and Tidal, king of Goiim; 2These kings waged war with Bera, king of Sodom, Birsha, king of Gomorrah, Shinab, king of Admah, Shemeber, king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar. 3All these kings joined forces in the valley of Siddim, at the salt sea. 4They had served Chedorlaomer twelve years; and in the thirteenth year, they rebelled. 5And in the fourteenth year, Chedorlaomer came, with the kings that were allied with him, and attacked the Rephaites in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, the Emites in Shaveh Kiriathaim, 6And the Horites in their mountains of Seir, as far as El-paran, near the wilderness. 7And as they returned, they came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and attacked all the country of the Amalekites, and the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazazon-tamar. 8And the rebel kings of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, and Bela (the same is Zoar), went out to battle against Chedorlaomer, and the three kings allied with him, in the valley of Siddim; 9Against Tidal, king of Goiim, Amraphel, king of Shinar, and Arioch, king of Ellasar - four kings against five. 10Now the valley of Siddim was full of slime (tar) pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and some fell there; and the others fled to the mountain. 11And the four kings carried off all the goods and supplies of Sodom and Gomorrah; 12And they also carried off Lot, Abram's nephew, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, as they departed. 13And then someone that had escaped, came and told Abram; dwelling by the oaks (in the plain) of Mamre, the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: all these were allied with Abram. 14And when Abram heard that his nephew was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, those born in his own house - three hundred eighteen - and pursued them to Dan. 15And he divided his men against them, he and his servants, and attacked them by night, and pursued them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus. 16And he recovered all the goods, and rescued his nephew Lot, with his goods, the women, and other people. 17And the king of Sodom went out to meet Abram upon his return from defeating Chedorlaomer, and the kings allied with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale. 18Then Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine; and he was the priest of the most high God. 19And he blessed Abram, and said, “Blessed be Abram of the Most High God, the Creator of heaven and earth: 20Praise be to the Most High God, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And Abram gave him tithes of all his spoils. 21And the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people, and keep the goods (spoils) for yourself.” 22And Abram answered the king of Sodom, “I have lifted up my hand and sworn an oath to the LORD, the Most High God, the Creator of heaven and earth, 23That I would not even take a thread or a sandal thong, or anything that is yours, so that you cannot say, ‘I have made Abram rich’: 24I will accept nothing except for what the young men have eaten, and a share for the men who went with me - Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their share.” Reader-Friendly Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2024 by Jim Musser.
